I've asked this question once before and no one knew the answer. Both the USAF and NOAA have hurricane hunters. Do they have different roles and if so, what?

Yeah, I have second hand anxiety from dealing with worried wife and small children. May just offer myself to Ida.

Crazy Louisiana is gonna get another major hurricane on the anniversary of Katrina…. Glad I’m not there. Been there, done that.

Judging by Google maps traffic, looks like all evacuation routes are heading east or west, but not north.
Why is north not the primary option?

Where’s a link for that for future use? Thanks.

Think much has to do with wind direction and whether the wind is able to get under a piece of the house like an overhang or a porch or patio area.
This happened to my brothers house during Laura… back porch roof went, and unfortunately took the living room roof with it. Nothing but the rafters left.
And of course it rained the next day to make matters worse.

Left Metairie at 5:00 to Houston. Just getting to Basin and stopped. Responders just flew by on shoulder.

Having to go 10 days without power after Katrina ended up being a fun time.
You mean with all the neighbors and cookouts? Yeah thats was ok but...

Yeah it was fricking hot but it wasn't all that bad.
Sheeeeeeeeeit! I think you have ptsd and your brain is blocking all memories of the Nigeria'esque conditions that were present for weeks afterwards.
Hell i dont think it rained again until Rita.

Have you ever been to North LA, Arkansas, or non-coastal MS? South is 3rd option to East and west

I have the same anxieties
we are riding this one out but have bags packed and ready to go if we change our minds or if the power stays out for a long time. I think Lafayette is going to be relatively fine compared to the other areas that will be hit much harder. I feel for my friends and family in Houma, BR, NOLA, and Northshore.
