Have a generator and a window unit for a worst case scenario
no offense but losing power at your house for days is a certainty not a worst case scenario. A worst case scenario is not having a house at all.
we can all (if we are not infirm) survive a week without power. It’s a fairly common occurrence here. I was without power for 2 weeks after that snow storm a few years ago, we were fine.
if you are inland and thus away from the surge, you need to decide to leave or stay based on wind damage concerns and not whether you are prepared to deal without electricity

We got an update on the guy from Schriever that evacuated to Donaldsonville to clap cheeks?
He’s hoping for a hard 4, but it’ll probably be a soft 3.

Can we get a tracking update on page 1? Looks like it hasn’t updated since yesterday.

Your dad sounds like a cuck
Not like he can force her, she is an adult. Plus he lives 2 states away

This is because of the west shift of the track.
The track barely shifted west
I was 60 miles east of Laura and we had plenty ofhurricane conditions and Laura had a small wind field - this looks like a bigger storm

That's a snip from a paid service.
Also: Conditions are about the same for Denham Springs

Katc in Lafayette is actually showing the Nam model for a hurricane just because it goes the furthest west.
They are some fricking hacks
Exactly why I don't watch KATC for weather, but KLFY isn't on right now.
Frick Robby P and his sensationalizing. I want to know what most likely is in my area, not that bullshite just because you want to scare people.

It has updated. The track hasn’t changed much at all.

The OP updates automatically. The only changes in the last 24 hours has been landfall time and intensity.

Where did you get that and can you put in other towns?

Been through andrew and katrina in river parishes.
People ALWAYS start out with a plan, and then end up letting the anxiety cause them to abandon that and go another direction when the storm is very close. Lots of influences work on a man and he finally says frick it.
If youre in the storms path, live by the coast or lowlands, your area is flood prone, you have trees around you that could fall on your house, or you live in a less than sturdy house (read trailer) then you should leave.
If you dont like sweating and dealing with no power, then do the same - u could do this after it has passed as well.
Staying on east side of mandeville near 12.

Interesting that all major models are picking up on the west side kinda falling apart right at landfall with very rapid weakening
Would that mean less severity for Lafayette people? Still dealing with the wife’s anxiety this morning

Which towns?

A well constructed home can probably handle winds like that with mostly superficial damage. But it can’t handle the flying tree branches, fencing material, and other debris that will be a part of the storm if it’s truly that powerful.
Again, we went through Katrina and I know of zero homes that were badly damaged that way. In my neighborhood, of over a hundred homes, I don’t think there was a broken window from flying objects. There was some roof damage, but even that was just missing shingles. And this was Brockenbraugh Ct in Old Metairie, with tons of big trees.
There were a few houses that had trees come down on them, but none in which an occupant would have been hurt. You should spend the most intense period - 2 hours, or so - in a downstairs hallway just to be safe. The risk of wind blown debris damaging houses, while possible, is way overblown (pun noticed).

we had one of those fancy play sets in the side yard. 6x4 timbers with cemented footings 18” deep. Got home day after the storm and the house did fine, roof got tattered, but the play set was gone.
WTF? I built one of these a while back and those swings are heavy AF. Granted, I used regular treated lumber, but it is hard to imagine even the pre-fabbed cedar sets getting tossed around.
