LSU coach Lane Kiffin spoke with reporters after practice on Monday to provide team updates and answer questions.

A main takeaway from his press conference was his evaluation of quarterback Sam Leavitt through the first week of practice:

"Sam has had a great week. He had a great practice today, taking care of the ball, throwing it accurately and on time."

"We're extremely pleased with his week and how he looks. We're really excited about him."

On OL coaches James Cregg & Eric Wolford:

"I can't imagine there is a better pair in the country. Two big-time SEC line coaches together. Both have coached in the NFL, really good technique guys."

Kiffin said Nick Saban was really high on Wolford when they spoke.

On redshirt freshman DE Damien Shanklin, who has not practiced:

"He is not practicing with the team right now, and that's all I can comment on that."

On TE Trey'Dez Green:

"He's a really great weapon to have and be able to use. His catching range and radius are off the charts. We're really glad he's here, and we look forward to using him in different ways."

Kiffin said he doesn't think DE Gabriel Reliford will be back this season.

Reliford was expected to play a big role in LSU's defense this season but tore his ACL in spring practice. He missed most of 2025 with a shoulder injury.

On Princewill Umanmielen and Devin Harper's buyouts with Ole Miss:

"I don't really get into all of that. That sounds like a legal matter, so I'm not going to comment."
