Staying put as well but the number of people saying they aren’t is making me think I’m being stupid.

What’s people’s barrier for leaving? Trees? Loss of power? Flooding?

Not a stupid question, trying to think this through

Meh... I'm sending the wife to her work sunday evening, she has to be on site monday when people start getting hurt. I imagine they will be fine.

We just started site prep for our new house yesterday. Current house is a tiny off the ground house that I built 1 year before gustav...gustav ripped the roof off.

I built it back stronger. But Idk how strong.

I'm running twin nylon straps over the metal roof. Connected to a tractor on each end.

That should keep the roof on.

Guess I'll see. No trees big enough to cause damage within 150 yards. Generators and gas on hand. SUV parked under metal carport in case the dogs and I need to skedaddle.

If the house gets destroyed, I'll have to buy a trailer while we build our house. That'll be a long 6 months......

I am surprised the latest update is only 85 mph. Looks like a healthier storm on radar

essentially what you're suggesting is for ppl to live in panic while a hurricane is projected to land over ~60 miles away from them with less than 2 days to landfall

2 days is a long time. A lot could change and it could go 30 miles west of the city instead of 60. That could make a big difference. Also doesn’t help that people have zero confidence in s&wb to have working pumps when we need them the most.

I’m not saying people should be in a panic. I just can see why evacuating makes a lot of sense for a lot of people.

I don't see why he wouldn't, his house had a teepee of trees over it during Gustav. Doctor's wife made him buy a house with no trees around.

Live oaks can withstand hurricanes right?

My inlaws have a number of live oaks in Mississippi Gulf Coast and only list some tree sized limbs during Katrina, while a few other water oaks, etc blew over.
All were defoliated. It was August/ September, but looked like the middle of winter with no leaves.

I think he's forgetting that most of the city is a fish bowl and the electric infrastructure isn't great.

nteresting that all major models are picking up on the west side kinda falling apart right at landfall with very rapid weakening
probably the dry air and wind shear the NHC is talking about. Reason for hope!

12 was clear. Once you hit 10 from NOLA it is stop and go. Almost to Gulfport. Stop and start. Go 70 then Stop for a minute.

Think I'm staying (Prairieville), but wife, son an dogs heading to Houston. I'm wondering if it would be best for them to leave tomorrow am early than today. Figure most will be on the road today.
