Storing or parking an extra vehicle

I just bought a new truck but I’m keeping my old one. My son will get it in three years and I still like it too much to part with it. But my front driveway is too crowded. Anyone dealt with this? What’s a good cheap place to park a vehicle that is out of the sun and won’t get stolen?
Storage places want a lot of money every month and I don’t need it climate controlled. Parking places focus on RVs and big trucks and are expensive.
I am in the Houston area.

In certain parts of Houston the preferred option seems to be on your front lawn.

If you know someone with a body shop, just throw a tarp over it and park it in their wrecked lot.

Just put a tarp over the one you won't drive and lock the door. No need to overcomplicate this.

Just find a tree-shaded location somewhere on your vast estate, baw.

I'm not a mechanic but that seems like a long time to hold onto a vehicle and basically put it in storage.
Other than the emotional tie to the vehicle it seems you could sell it and the buy back the "same" truck for the same price or less 3 years from now. Hell add in the money you're about to spend on insurance and storage and you can probably get him a nicer truck.
Have you priced insurance on a 3rd vehicle? From my previous experience its the same cost to insure the truck sitting in your driveway as your primary vehicle.

Just get rid of the damn truck and revisit the situation in 3 years.
Storing, insurance, and problems caused by not routinely running the engine seems like a nightmare situation. Being emotionally attached to a depreciating, material asset? Grow up man.

Yup. Put the money in solid index ETF investment account.

Seems like you bought a new truck 3 years too soon. ANy reason why you sprung for a new one now if the old one holds so much personal value to you?

Subtle brag, " i can buy a new truck and I don't even have to trade in my old one!"

Three years is too long to store a vehicle without it having some mechanical problems when you are ready to drive it again. Mice will completely frick it up.

Gift your lesser vehicles to your butler and maid.

Just go pawn it for a few months at a time. Pick it up, pay off the loan. ‘Free’ parking.
I know a guy that does this in NYC when he heads down to Florida for the winter.

Sounds like you need either a nicer or a trashier front lawn/drive.
You’re stuck in the middle.

Spend about $400 for a good UV car cover, that is custom fit to the vehicle.
If you can, park it on the side of your garage.
Put a battery tender on it. Drive it once a month.

If the truck is parked and not actually used, you will have constant problems out of it when you intend your son to use it.
Speaking from experience….
You need to drive the old truck a couple of days a week if you intend to try and keep it long term for your son.
So the dilemma, providing you are willing to try this is where to keep it, is how to do this. Depending on what your line of work is, you can park it at work and drive the new truck to work and drive the old one home, and back the next morning….doing the once a week, maybe twice every few weeks. Just my 0.02!
