Parking in the sun really doesn’t matter. I don’t have a garage. My car has been parked outside for 8 years now. No issue
Btw: what will you do in 3 years when he starts driving? I assume he’ll be a teen and living at home. Where will he then park?

We park vehicles of employees who have quit or been fired in non climate controlled storage units.

Seems like you bought a new truck 3 years too soon. ANy reason why you sprung for a new one now if the old one holds so much personal value to you?
I’ve wanted a raptor for a long time and got tired of waiting. I’m not married to my old truck but it’s a 2016 Tundra that still drives like new.
But yeah probably should just sell it. Not worth the hassle.

Well…by then…hmmmm
Damn bro. You stumped me lol
I have a regular suburban driveway. But my wife had her car, we have a big modified van for my daughter who has special needs, and my daughter has a home health nurse who parks 6 days per week. So just congested.

Subtle brag, " i can buy a new truck and I don't even have to trade in my old one!"
This is the OT. Isn’t everyone here rich?

From my previous experience its the same cost to insure the truck sitting in your driveway as your primary vehicle.
You can get storage insurance at a much lower rate.

Storing, insurance, and problems caused by not routinely running the engine seems like a nightmare situation. Being emotionally attached to a depreciating, material asset?
Do you even auto-board.
It's not that difficult. People with older vehicles do this all the time.
Battery tender and basic know-how and your old vehicle can make it to your grand kids.

You can park it at my house. I'll only charge you half whatever the self-storage places want. I have plenty of trees so it would be in the shade.
ETA: nevermind. I see now that you're in Houston

Battery tenders are amazing. I routinely get 8+ years out of batteries on RVs and stored cars.
I changed one out at 11 years just b/c I didn't trust it.
Never use a tarp on anything stored outdoors.
The tarps delaminate and the plastic melds to the paint. If you have to store it outdoors, buy a good cover.

Texas has a ton of outdoor storage. If you want covered storage get a storage bay. But it should be fine under a cover.

Yes they are. I have one plugged into a wall timer that set to come on for two hours before sunrise on my old Chevy. It is not a daily driver and never have a slow start on the first crank of the day. My last battery went 8 years before it started giving the hint it was time to pull it.

Those 2.5 gen Tundras with the 5.7 are rock solid. I had a Sequoia with that engine and should never have gotten rid of it. So I fully understand the desire to hold onto it.
If you were to sell it, I would be interested depending on trim level and mileage. Been looking for a 2021 and older model for awhile that has been well maintained and haven’t found one I like. And when I do, it’s always a day or two too late and it has already sold.

Keeping it for three years isn't a big deal. I have a "hunting truck" I only drive a few times a year (2013 Tundra), it cranks up like off the showroom floor.
Run the ethanol gas out of it and fill to the brim with non ethanol. Drive it once per month. Good to go.
Several years ago I did a couple of six month deployments and parked my truck for 6 months (wife never cranked), when I got home it popped right off, and that was a Silverado, not even a Toyota.

Oh heck no, don't sell a 2016 Tundra, keep that for 10 more years and 200k more miles.
One word of caution (as you know) that's a lot of engine for a teen.

Put it in your back driveway.
