$4.5 million for this. No money for police pay raises, roads or shite that benefits the taxpayers.

These big payouts to the families of some guy who wouldn't make an honest $100k in his lifetime mean more lawsuits and big settlements.

Not one thing. He died because he chose to go for a weapon when being detained. He was brandishing the weapon at people going into the store that he had words with. If ever there was a person not to hitch your wagon to, he would be it but that didnt stop BLM from putting him and others up as a victim of police brutality. I feel bad for the police officers whose lives were messed up for this POS and for our community that now has to pay out bribes to keep the peace from stupid people that think this wasnt justified.

How much are the attorneys skimming off the top?
We should know who they are and how much they are getting too.

It's clown world, yes, but I understand why the city paid it. If they had fought, a BR jury would award them 1 jillion dollars. Then the city would be stuck asking for JNOV to overturn the jury, asking for rehearing (with another EBR jury), or hanging their hopes on an award reduction from the 1st Circuit. Regardless of appellate result, the loser would ask the LA supreme court to hear the matter.

You're talking $4 million in legal and expert witness fees over multiple years for a high profile case like this with PR implications.

They just have zero chance of getting a reasonable unprejudiced jury.

fricking absurd. I'm so glad I'm not paying taxes in EBR anymore.

I'm sure my tax money here goes to plenty of shitty causes as well... but still...

It depends. How real do they want to keep it? They might not be the type who leaves as soon as they get a lil money.
