There are usually 3 sides of the story, his, hers, and the truth. His relationship with his stepdaughter has probably been rocky, otherwise, why would she exclude him? Seems like he likes to use what he can provide as leverage over what he wants based on his actions. I am sure that may be how it’s been her whole life. I am not 100% defending her actions but you can never take everything at face value.

the parent with morals, standards, and accountability always has the rocky relationship with the stepdaughter. the father who is away and shows up only to be the hero dad who lets her do anything she wants and pays for no mistakes is loved with all the teenager's heart.
