My wife stays home. We homeschool our youngest son. We keep our expenses low. It’s worth it it. Children should have a mother at home.

Ditto if I was married, I would do the exact thing.

I have been a stay at home, work at home mom/wife for 20+ years. I have take care of almost all of our life chores on a day to day basis.... and will continue even when our last child moves out.

I stayed home until my youngest started first grade. I loved it, but I was ready to go back to work.

Women have lost sight of what it actually use to mean to be a housewife. I’ll still retire early, leave my children better off than myself and we have more than we need. That’s a win.
I don't think women have lost sight. I know my fair share of women who have been a SAHM, especially during their kid's younger years.
I just think for most families, especially if you live in a state where there's higher cost of living, it just isn't financially viable.

Wife has never worked. Going on 29 years. Three grown kids.
Yup, close to 30 years and wife has never worked outside the home. Worked a LOT at home as it's a 24/7 job, and kids have been homeschooled their entire lives with my oldest being a junior in college and second heading there this summer. As a self-employed financial services broker, I've enjoyed working at home 95% of the time while watching my kids grow up. Wouldn't trade anything for that experience!!

I think this for sure. We could probably make one income work, but we love to travel, eat out, and not have to worry about finances.
Everyone is different, you just have to find what works for your family.

When both partners have market earning power, it’s a huge benefit. Most couples don’t have that capability. Usually one or both partners are barely out earning the costs of schooling/daycare and benefits of a SAH parent. I’d imagine the majority in this thread don’t have both partners capable of earning

It's something we decided when we got married. She'd raise kids and I would work. Wasn't always easy financially when the kids were younger but we got by. Once the kids went out on their own I was at a point in my career where we have plenty of money and she didn't need to work.... So she still stays home. It's very nice.

We have been married 30 years. I have worked about ten of those years—before we had kids, when my son had started school but my daughter had not come along yet, and one year in a very lucrative contract position. We all prefer the dynamic when I am home full time. We have made sacrifices, sure, but find it worthwhile.

We do. I have talked about my wife quitting recently but she refuses to do the cost cutting/budgeting it would require. The coupon clipping. etc.
So she will continue working.

In a place like Baton Rouge, you can make work it on one income at around $100K/yr. I’d imagine there’s a ton of single income households in BR.
In a place like Seattle where I live, forget about it. I know very few people who don’t have two incomes to support a couple kids and costs associated with that.

Since having children, I've stayed home full time, worked full time, and worked part-time. Even though the extra money is nice, I can say, without a doubt, that our home is a happier place when I don't work at all.<<< That is how my children were raised.
Two of my children have households where the husband's schedule is kind of crazy, and the wife being around all of the time allows him to go do what he needs to do. I take care of most things home and child related. It works for them and I fully support it.
I did not work until my children were in elementary school then it was a combo of part and full time.
Two of my children have households where the husband works shift work (plant and hospital) so the wife does not work so there is more family time and less time when spouses do not see each other. In one couple my child is the husband, in the other couple my child is the daughter.

My wife has been watching the kids since 2015. She will be going back to work this fall when my youngest starts Kindergarten and now need to support private school payments .

Definitely possible, from my experience the stay at home moms are mostly overweight and lazy but they retain the label.
The women that work isn’t because it’s not financially feasible but rather they have a 80k Tahoe and an over the top house.
Would never tell someone how to spend their money but just my observations. I definitely could see in some places where it would be necessary for both parents to work.

Yes. My wife (no pics) is a housewife, and she hates a feminist trying to tell her what she needs to be doing.

Wife was sahm until all the kids were in school, then she returned to teaching part time at first, then full time.
Not sure what value a sahm provides when kids aren’t toddler or younger, honestly.
I know several and they are all really good at tennis and volunteer a lot for school functions.
