re: What music will you request be played at your visitation/funeral?
Posted by Summerchild on 6/24/23 at 5:40 pm to Bass Tiger
Just returned home from my fathers funeral. He had requested Blue Eyes Crying In the Rain, Traveling Wilburys End of the Line, and Elvis How Great Thou Art quietly played during visitation, and the hymn, In The Garden, done a cappella by a close family friend during the service. Done and done.
I would probably be good with similar.

Honey baked ham, dressing, lasagna, poppyseed chicken, green bean casserole, pound cake.
In other words, Baptist funeral food.

Women over 40 have the DVD box-set in a special place. Guys relive Seinfeld. Women, Friends is their Seinfeld.
Holy generalization, Batman. I do not have any Friends DVDs at all and do not rewatch. I have the Seinfeld box set, rewatch on and off all the time, and use several Seinfeld references daily—to the chagrin and dismay of my friends and family. It is probably my favorite comedy. So. Maybe I am a dude.
So you can say “all women…except Summerchild”.

Only child here, too, currently living out my dad’s last few hours/days with him. My mom is a tireless caregiver, but she is wearing out, so I am spending as much time as possible with them. My husband, kids, and I do what we can. He is at home with caregivers and that is a blessing. I try to do what I know he would want, what he did for his parents, and honor how he raised me.
Prayers for strength and peace for all who have gone or are going through it.

re: What do people who don't drink do in the evenings after work?
Posted by Summerchild on 6/19/23 at 2:58 pm to KCSilverTiger
Cook dinner, walk the dogs, sometimes a puzzle or lego with my youngest, watch a movie or show with husband. Read in bed.
Drinking at night interrupts my sleep. I will always wake up at 3 or 4 if I drink much of anything. Now a gummy…different story.

Took the following to the beach last weekend: kettle corn, potato chips, crudite, cold clementines, and the overwhelming winner of the day…ice cold pineapple soaked in Malibu rum.

He is being buried near where I live. I rescheduled an appointment this afternoon because I knew it would be a shitshow trying to go anywhere in Denham Springs.
I do not begrudge it one bit. May he rest in peace…

80s teenaged girl standard issue.
I also had flyers of my boyfriends band which, thankfully, have been lost to the sands of time.

Jesus, mine too. And my parents. And my brother-in-law and his fiancee. And anyone who happened to be passing the hospital.
There were people in my room throughout the labor. I had a brief respite for the C-section, then for the next two days in the hospital it was a revolving door. I was exhausted. Couldnt have a moment’s peace to shower. I finally asked the nurse to kick them all out.
My husband probably should managed them better. The second time around he did. Told everyone to back off.
