So the government wants to cut out the small business and move those funds into the government? I'm so shocked

I've forgotten to renew my inspection sticker before and have gone six months with an expired one without getting stopped. I have friends who've done the same. From what I understand, the cops generally will ticket you for one if they happen to stop you for something else, like speeding, running a red light or some other moving violation.
Kenner runs inspection sticker checkpoints occasionally. The last I saw was maybe a year ago on Williams at the river.
Speed trap towns that are looking for any excuse keep an eye on inspection stickers. My grandparents lived in Bunkie, and years ago an Avoyelles deputy made a u-turn in the middle of a highway and followed me up my grandparents’ driveway because my inspection sticker was a little over 30 days expired.

$10/year? I’ve been getting screwed!

That is a typical LA train of thought. The idea behind inspections is to assure safe vehicles are on the road. TX is a good example:
* Major cities have an emissions test
* they really inspect the car for brake lights, turn signals, wipers, etc.
* To begin, you present proof of insurance
This annoying, annual ritual should be more than a fund raiser, but this is LA

shite, out of no where, our local state politicians want to get rid of inspections and exhaust inspections. Said the air quality has improved, and no need to continue forcing it on auto owners.

State of LA can't even make a brake tag/inspection sticker that stays stuck.
You know goddamn well that someone's relative got that contract.

I once went 5 years without getting an inspection sticker. I had a check engine light that no mechanic could make go away so I figured frick it. I got one ticket in that timespan and it roughly equaled the money I saved in not paying for the inspection.

Same here, in college.
Nice try BRPD. Suck it.

bothering with Insurance/Inspection/DUI Checkpoints around the 'hoods
Sheeeeett you would be surprised how many cars can be towed over a weekend in the hood for no insurance. You dont get your car back without paying the fine and showing proof of insurance. If the fine is not paid you auction the car and trust me theres some nice cars out there.

Removed my truck's slightly out-of-spec too dark front doors window tint to renew last week. Waiting in line I put them down as it was a bit warm that day.
The inspector checked my lights, blinkers and had me remove my sunglasses, I assume to make sure the factory windshield tint wasn't excessive? She didn't ask to check the lowered side door windows.
Showed my docs paid the 2 year fee and rolled out.
Inspections don't seem to be primarily about safety, if they ever were.
I wish they were about flagging owners with no insurance and impounding their vehicle.

I'd rather not pay the $10 at all, but if I have to, definitely add it to the renewal fee.
It's a pain in the arse.

Why does the state police get inspection sticker money and why do they need more? Honest question, because I wasn't aware of a shortage but we definitely need money for infrastructure.

There’s a shortage of Yukon’s, or whatever they are. Some of the State police with Troop L have been forced to patrol in brand new Chargers. It’s gotta be tough to do your job in a 4 door sports car like some loser.

I bought my truck new in June of 2016 and I’ve never gotten a brake tag. Been pulled over several times for other things and I’ve never gotten popped for not having one.

I got a ticket for a fake brake tag. Bought it at the same place I had always gotten them from, which is a very common place for people to go.
After talking to the DA, BRPD had been using it as an excuse to pull people over. DA dropped it, but it was a PITA. Havent purchased once since

I'm all for this. Since we know they won't relinquish the revenue, I'd rather just pay more on my renewal than go sit in a shop every year to get my car inspected.
If you believe inspection stickers keep shitty cars off the road, you're wrong. The shitheads who drive rolling death traps aren't concerned with getting their car inspected. They probably already have a few warrants anyway.
