From what I understand, the cops generally will ticket you for one if they happen to stop you for something else, like speeding, running a red light or some other moving violation.

Apparently you’ve never driven through a “check point” where they are standing in the middle of the road when you get near a stop sign and such. Most recent one I had was at Jefferson and 42. They check to see if your wearing a seatbelt and your inspection sticker.

State troopers have had more raises as far as state law enforcement is concerned over the past few years.

Corrections workers, game wardens, probation and parole officers are paid paltry wages.

Wonder why so many prison guards are caught up in corruption? They ain't paid squat.

Walker and port allen have cops dedicated to finding expired inspection stickers. They'll pull you over if you have a rejection sticker just to check it.

There's no way Louisiana gives up the money they make on expired inspection sticker tickets.

Fair points.

But imho, from my experience of years of driving, if some of you get what you want and have absolutely no requirement for a car to get basic inspections every year or two years, we'd see even MORE cars out on the road with headlights and tail lights out and bad breaks. Anyone who thinks there wouldn't be a cost to this involving more accidents and traffic deaths are fooling themselves.

Inspection stickers are nothing but a tax that also allows smaller police departments to get revenue by ticketing people with expired stickers.

Yeah, I am salty because I hate when Port Allen police do an inspection sticker check when coming off the Plaquemine exit on the interstate (off the mississippi river bridge).

Not that they ever caught me because when I had an expired sticker I would just take the split to the docks then get back on the highway right where they end the checkpoint, but it slows down traffic. Thankfully they haven't been doing it as much.

I’ve been told that this will result in an estimated new 115 State Troopers.

Who will all promptly be fired when they realize how much less money they have because they won't be writing a gazillion brake tag tickets at checkpoints.

You must’ve never been through an inspection sticker/seatbelt checkpoint.

I’m for this. Nothing pisses me off more than having to replace something on my car that cost a lot of money just because I can’t get a sticker without doing it. A sensor that doesn’t seem to affect anything other than getting a sticker is bs.

I had a feeling about this. Nailed it by not renewing my sticker for a year and a half

I'm still salty from when I was 16 and my parents got rid of the car I was driving because the catalytic converter went out, replacing that part was expensive, and it couldn't pass inspection without it. I ended up having to drive my brother's PT Cruiser instead for years as a result.

Inspection stickers aren't sincere. I've seen plenty of piles going down the road with current stickers.

This, more death traps would be on the roads.

Typical LA government though, they want to eliminate the tag but move the charge over to your license plate renewal fee. Government truly never shrinks or gives up a revenue source.

They could raise all fees which they will. Inspection sticker will go up to $50 and other fees will triple.

I thought the inspection was to assure road worthy cars. You're telling me it was just about the money?

I had an old S10 I used around the farm. It passed inspection for years with no muffler and no working driver's side seat belt. Pretty sure the catalytic converter was nonfunctioning too. The mechanic I took it to gave zero fricks.

State of LA can't even make a brake tag/inspection sticker that stays stuck.

Same deal with mine and tons of others I've seen. I guess the state bought the cheapest (shittiest) stickers they could.

Also, concerning another point made, I've had a trooper whip a u-turn and pull me over for an expired tag.

If cops can notice that people don't have an inspection sticker on their car and ticket them, they can do the same if they see a moving death trap. If all brake tag inspections were thorough safety examinations, then I would agree with you, but most seem to last about 30 seconds, you give them the money and they slap the sticker on there.

Also, you could get a brake tag and have three things break within a month and be driving a death trap with a valid brake tag that's good for another 23 months. That doesn't make it a safe car.

It’s not like they are checking brakes and stuff. They check your lights, your windshield, and emissions. If you have a light out you can be ticketed whether you have a sticker or not. So that only leaves emissions and windshield. Emissions only count if your in EBR or a surrounding Parish. If you live in Tangipahoa Parish you don’t have to worry about emissions. So, all we are talking about is a cracked windshield?
