State and Local Tax Collected per Capita: Texas 32nd, Louisiana 34th

Texas collected LESS state and local taxes than Louisiana at $5,737 v $5,863.
Let’s break that down a little bit. There’s more poor people in Louisiana, wages are generally lower, services are way worse, and you have to pay for your kid to go to private school. Translation: the people that actually pay taxes pay a shite ton more in Louisiana than Texas.
Sorry to offend all you guys that will continue to deny this despite me telling you for years.

It's interesting that LA is ranked 32nd, and they are $1,000 away from being 50th (lowest) or 21st.

I've known this for a while. I've tried explaining this to relatives back in Louisiana that my cost of living near Houston is about the same even though I pay $400 more a month in property taxes. My salary is also double for the exact same role I had in Lafayette. They don't believe me or it just flies over their head. I just quit talking about it because they're not smart enough to understand.

You think that there are more poor people in Lousiana than in Texas? I don't even have to look this up to know it is wrong. The population of Texas in 32 million. LA. has about 4.7 million. Just due to the tremendous difference in population, you know that Texas has more poor people. Maybe you meant to say "more poor people per capita"?

I think you can see the Alaska and North Dakota numbers and realize that severance taxes on gas and oil used outside of the state and being collected from people outside of the state bump up per capita rate of total state and local tax collections used in these figures. States that generate a lot of tax revenue from out of state tourists would also bump the rates up.
Since the graph doesn’t show who is actually paying the taxes the graph and your comments above really show that the taxpayers of Louisiana’s tax collections got less for their taxes paid during the fiscal year 2023 shown in graph than those with better services and public schools.

Would tourist industry taxes in NewOrleans bump Louisiana up?
