I think arguing over how many space flights is pedantic.
Unless somehow you relate that to tax dollars or something for this discussion.
For nearby residents it is a noise issue I would assume.

The net cost/benefit needs positive tax revenue to makes sense.

I am honestly somewhat torn on the SpaceX near Pecan Island thing, though if everything that’s laid out happens, it should be a HUGE bonus to the Acadiana economy, and for me personally, hopefully UL as well. So overall, I like it.
However, I have been wondering…if the players here, instead of Elon Musk and Jeff Landry, were say…Jeff Bezo and his Blue Origin rockets and Mitch Landrieu as Governor…would many of the same folks who are currently in support of the project be against it, and would many of those railing against it be for it?
Mostly what I gathered from the article itself is much of the same we always hear from these groups when a large plant builds in Louisiana and stuff like that. I guess Jan Moller decided to rebrand her “Project Louisiana” NGO as “Invest in Louisiana”?

Do we know for sure they will be building rockets here? I’ve seen some reports that maybe they will build them in Texas and barge them over

I think the difference here is that SpaceX has been launching a lot of rockets. Blue Origin not so much. So I think this has a better chance of becoming a really big deal with a piece of critical infrastructure in south Louisiana.
Politicians, I don’t trust any of them.
Hopefully, the people in that area can have good paying jobs so that they can support their families and build a better future for the area.

Incentives are all about options and return.
Would another state have worked for SpaceX? And how much would that other state have given them?
And covering a portion of salaries is a problem for me. That’s an actual cost. Are we going to make that up in increased tax revenue?
I don’t mind forgiving some taxes but we are paying costs here.

The largest incentive is SpaceX not paying property taxes, which they value at neatly $24 billion but as mentioned SpaceX will still pay $25 million yearly to the parish and that can be inflation-adjusted.

I think Exxon gave up ownership of the land to Vermilion Parish, and Space X will be leasing the land. Similar to what they're doing in Donaldsonville.
