I’m somewhat confused about the money/tax details. So, St. George, which was previously an unincorporated community, is becoming a city in East Baton Rouge Parish. Wouldn't the residents continue to pay the same taxes they paid before, since those were parish taxes and not city taxes? How could an area that wasn’t a city pay city taxes to a city they weren’t part of?

Because of the unique form of government that EBR and BR used to be. All the money from the entire parish went into one coffer. The issue is that the area where most of the money was coming from was not getting in return a good ROI, for lack of better term.
Here's where the supreme court called that to the plaintiff's attention, which most say was the pivot point of the entire hearing.

How is it racist to incorporate an unincorporated area, a move that requires not a single person relocating and doesn't affect the population of either the city of Baton Rouge nor East Baton Rouge Parish whatsoever? I would love to hear your answer although I won't hold my breath. Usually the R word means you have nothing else.
