My point would be that it is their company, so they have the right to set the policy.
If you own a business, you should have the right to set policy for that company and expect others to comply with that well publicized policy without playing victim and going to the media. If you don’t agree with it, just patronize another business.

it's a fricking bear, but if they are going to have to fly, they need to research (and call) businesses to ensure they can be accomodated vs just showing up.

I agree, and this applies to really any age specific restriction (alcohol, tobacco, etc).
Seems like it would be easier for SWA to let them take the like 30 minute flight instead of having it blow up like this. I don't disagree with SWA enforcing their rules, just seems from a purely cost/benefit PR standpoint this wasn't the best choice.

I agreed with this until I saw he was 3 y/o. I don’t think an apology is necessary but some kids that age would be impossible to keep a mask on them. Particularly one with autism. You make that age 4 or 5 and there are no excuses.

Does the mask rule make sense? I do not care. It is the SW rule and some special needs parents "get off" on this kind of attention whore crap.
On a side note, with a large number of kids on the spectrum the parents are the bigger problem than the child in the child'd lack of ability to function in a social setting. They think you cannot instill ANY discipline or have any expectations on an autistic child and that is only true in a very small percentage of cases.
I wish all special needs parents like yourself had this all figured out like you do.

I agree that it is dumb for the parents to try and fly with that rule in place.

Biggest question to me that the article doesn't address is when was the flight TO Midland? This is about the RETURN flight. It appears that there was no issue on the first flight, and quite possibly the boy was not forced to wear a mask. If the first flight was before July 27th, when exceptions were allowed, and they changed the rules before the return flight, it's on SW to get them home.

Well then drive the kid. Nobody wants to hear a screaming kid on a plane. Flying on commercial flights isn't a right. Private companies have rules and expect you to follow them. Driving from Midland to Houston isn't the end of the world.
