Middle East has been a shithole for thousands of years, and will continue to be. High levels of poverty, no accountability for violence, disproportionate wealth in a close area, struggles between religions in a place where religion is life, significant lag behind the rest of the world in modernization, violence disrupting any progress and stopping any outside help

By getting into a war with Hezbollah, Saudia Arabia basically is fighting Iran.
Hell, Saudia Arabia is essentially fighting Iran in Yemen by proxy.

Our national interest is in having all international oil trading denominated in dollars. If we decided to go "frick you" to the Saudis, they could very easily topple one of the greatest assets the United States has, financially.
