Somebody convince me that Metairie Mardi Gras doesn't suck.

Never been, but watching on TV I'm failing to see anything appealing. Who wants to hang out on Veterans? And don't give me the "family friendly" argument..... There are hundreds of thousands of families with kids on the uptown route.
My theory is that within the last 20 years, even people who live in suburbs (like me) have acknowledged that the suburbs aren't cool. Which is why most white people in the burbs have gone back to attending parades in the city. Maybe the ones left on Vets are just racist.

I've been a few times (Metarie) when I was younger. Not much on parades anymore, but I've always had a great time there.

From watching on TV, my unscientific opinion is most of the folks look like they're from St. John, St. Charles, and other such Parishes.

If I had young kids, I wouldnt take them downtown. Lots of people dont want the hassle of dealing with the Rabble.

If you like the Mardi Gras experience but don't want to deal with the traffic, parking, jockeying for a spot, and enormous crowds packed in to a small place then go to Metry.
You can literally leave your house less than an hour before the parade starts, easily set up a spot w/ ladder on the route, catch a ton of stuff, and be home quickly after the parade is over.

Wake up call: nobody cares. Yes, the Astros are better than the Sugarland Skeeters but my kids don’t give a shite and neither do I. I can go watch baseball without having to deal with city trash and not spend near as much. Same for Metairie parades. One day you’ll grow up and realize you don’t always have to be so ‘trendy’.

at the height of white flight the metry parades were solid.... after the oil bust... it's been a slow steady decline.

I did Metairie for Mardi Gras day back in the 80's and 90's when I was a kid, on Bonnabel.
My parents took us Uptown for Rex and Zulu early morning and then to Bonnabel where a family friend lived and as a kid I thought it was awesome. I preferred Metairie Mardi Gras day back then b/c it wasn't as crowded and I actually caught a ton of shite, which when you're a kid, is the most important thing. The trashy people were on Severn or down by Moby Dick's and Jiggers.
Now though, Metairie parades suck. They're small and the crowd is much much trashier all over the route. Nowadays I'd just take the time and go to St. Charles up by Napoleon.

you get drunk going there, get drunker while there to the point you dont even see the parade, often you wake up sleeping in the car after someone took you home
thats the average "good" mardi gras parade experience

Convince me that the person too lame to actually go to the parades, watches on TV and complains about how bad parades suck doesn’t suck themselves.
