If it makes you feel any betters something about the Bonne Carre gives me anxiety, idk why its not high up or anything, maybe its the lack of shoulder space or something idk. I hope to never have to cross the causeway ever again either.

Dealt with it myself about 10 years ago. Took longer than I'd like to admit but I eventually got over it by just facing the fear. Trick I used when driving was looking at license plate on car in front of me and trying to come up with different words out of the letters or multiplying the numbers on the plate in my head as high as I could take it until I got over the bridge. This kept my eyes on the road but distracted my brain from the stupid anxiety that was trying to take over.

You know who else has a fear of bridges? TulaneLSU.

It’s called getting older, folks. I used to not be afraid of heights, claustrophobic, prone to motion sickness, etc, etc , the list goes on.

Wife (no pics) will not drive over bridges. Not any type. Tried therapy to no avail. Very restrictting. Not to mention huge pain in the arse for me.

It is weird, I’m fine in planes and no problem with heights if on my feet. But, something about being in a car going over a big bridge gets me very anxious. It’s kind of like a vertigo feeling and feel it in my stomach.

I developed this fear about 10 years ago too----while driving alone across the Delaware Memorial Bridge---huge and high... I had an overwhelming urge to slam on the brakes, put the car in park and cover my eyes with my hands. Full blown panic attack with pounding heart, felt like I would black out. Managed to talk my way through to the other side, pulled over and cried my eyes out. I was on a trip to visit my sister and I don't live near that bridge or any other to go over regularly in order to work my way through it. It's really frightening.

B+ for effort
HWY 87 Bridge clearance under 177 ft
Skyway Bridge 180.5 ft
Cooper River Bridge 186 ft
Now I'm confused thanks to Wiki
Clearance on the Fred-Hartman is 180' below
Confusing info for sure

the Rainbow Bridge was built with a 680-foot (210 m) main span. In addition, it has a vertical clearance of 177 ft (54 m),[2] which was intended to allow what was at the time the tallest ship in the US Navy, USS Patoka, passage under the bridge

I counted 6 subtle brags from OP. Might be a record

Is there no other path around Tampa than this one bridge?

What is the point of having it humped like that? If it is purely aesthetic....I don't get it.

Only time I had anxiety on a bridge was during drivers ed going over the old MS River Bridge in a old Dodge with three speed manual and a crappy clutch pedal.
Instructor: Trav, you don't have to go that fast to get to the top.
Me: Oh hell yeah I do!

It's awesome when they sway side to side.

Been reading through this thread with that bridge in my mind the entire time. That’s the one that I remember feeling that extreme anxiousness about a third of the way across. Really the only one before or since, but definitely had me feeling queasy afterwards.

The bigger they are, the more I hate them.
