No prior fear of heights, as I have jumped off of bridges up to 80 ft off the water in my younger days, as well as an airplane or two.

No way this bridge makes you feel fearful if you have done those things

Was just about to say... drive over the i-10 bridge in LC and you'll get another taste

Rainbow bridge with traffic both ways is the only time i have been scared going over a bridge.

I was on my way offshore at Sabine Pass early one morning and when I passed over the Rainbow Bridge there was someone walking up it from the east side. I found out later that the person had jumped off the bridge and committed suicide.

The old Huey P before they redid it was a nightmare.

Growing up, I would always have dreams about driving up a bridge in a car and it being so steep the car just falls over backwards and that's how I would wake up lol. It happened dozens of times.

Back in the day , the worst was being stuck on the Huey P Long in the left lane while the train was coming..

It was pretty freaky how much the train caused the Huey P to move.

jesus, i always heard as a kid it was a popular spot to do that.

I dont mind rainbow anymore now that its only one way. Dont like it, but dont freak either.

when i was a kid and traffic was both ways with no median and no center divider, i would lay in back seat if we had to cross it.

I cross over I-10 in LC almsot daily and it doesnt even phase me. Been stuck on top for hours and didnt even have a care in the world. Last time was after an LSU game at 2am and someone was doing exactly what you described in the south bound lanes so they shut the whole bridge down. This was after being stuck on atchafalaya bridge for hours.

I think the only time I ever went over the Rainbow was that night. I think I came back through Cameron.

Talking about jumpers. My high school principal's son committed suicide off the 210 bridge.

Doesn't seem like you hear of people doing that as often or maybe it just doesn't make the news these days.

i think its more because people have cell phones to alert authorties now of people walking up. thats what happened that night I got caught on I-10. police showed up and ended up saving his life.

Crazy irrational fear. Me and bridges haven't got along for some years now. I don't like being on them or under them. If "past lives" are a thing maybe I died in a bridge accident? Brains are weird

Same fear and that bridge was the culprit.

A) It was over 35 yrs ago

B) Never said I wasn't nervous then. In regards to the bridge jump we were waterskiing on the bay below the bridge most of the day when an AF buddy of mine dared me to do it.
I told him I would if he would, so late in the afternoon after muchos cervezas we talked each other into doing it. Took forever to walk up the bridge and get to the center over the deepest part of the channel. We stepped over the side and said we go on "Three". As we started counting we realized we had both made the huge mistake of thinking the other would back out of doing it. We knew we "F'd" up when we looked at each other after "Two" and neither was going to give in. On three we jumped, he landed perfect and me getting crooked at the last bit, taking most of the hit on my rt arse cheek. We had two boats waiting to pick us up/help us just in case chit went sideways, but we were fine, save for my arse cheek. After many celebratory brews the pain subsided but only until the next a.m. (Cue Darwin's theory)

In an interesting turn of events later in his career he became the squadron Safety Officer at an un-named AF base in the CONUS.

I’d like to add one of my favorite quotes of all time here. From the Wizard of Oz:

“We’re under the impression than when we run away, we have no courage. We’re confusing courage with wisdom. We are all victims of disorganized thinking”
