Got a bill in yesterday. Had a bunch of blood work done. One of the charges was for sticking a needle in to draw blood. They charged $16 just for that. This is a first for that ever. How else are they to get blood in the first place?

I'm a bit surprised they don't charge $5 everytime a nurse comes in the room and puts on the gloves and disposes them.

Yes sir. Probably getting charged per minute for the air you’re breathing too. Check those bills close folks.

I have very good insurance. Medicare and plan "F". What Medicare don't pay, plan F pays 100%. Yes, it cost a arm and a leg, but I have to have it.

Last Dec, I had a CRT-D replaced. Cost was $200K. Cost me $0.

Healthcare is the only thing you can’t shop for or comparison shop. Try calling anybody in healthcare to get the cost of a procedure before you do it.
They might tell you a number but they will always qualify it as a ball park estimate and rarely guarantee anything.
The exception is for boob jobs and plastics stuff where you have to pay cash upfront with no insurance involved.
God forbid you have to go through the emergency room.

Phlebotomist charge?

This is what is stated.

Insertion of needle into vein for collection of blood sample. Code 36415

I never saw this before and I have blood work done weekly.

That does beg the question, if you needed to give blood, you could either take it out yourself or pay someone else to do it. What is that service worth?

They raised the prices when they started having to go to school to become phlebotomists. It’s all a scam.
