You're right because saying 30 different countries is too hard for most people to understand that I was talking about countries other than the countries already within the continent of Africa.

I hope this is a joke. Gravity is the reason this doesn’t occur. If gravitational pull came from outer space and in space there was an “up and a down” orientation then the above would be true. Our up and down is relative to the gravitational pull towards the earths center and orientation relative to the surface of the earth.

My teenage Eagle scout, who asked Santa for a globe for Christmas when he was in 4th grade, just gave me 10 min diatribe about this whole topic when I told him "some people want to change the map to make Africa bigger".
Some of the point he made were, compass directions translate from Mercator projection from Earth to Globe to map. In other words you sacrifice polygon shape for Navigation. It's the reason that all major map service use Mercator projection. In his words, No matter what you choose you can't "make a spheroid into a rectangle without distorting something. We distorted the poles because not a lot of navigation happens there."
My kid can be a nerd, but I love him.

I think it’s ridiculous that somehow the concept of scale is too much for people to grasp. And that all Africa’s problems are because of a map.
However, I give no shits otherwise and it’s not a good look that the U.S. was the only vote to oppose. Nothing can be beneficial from that. Why not just abstain like six other countries?
