Crazy to think I bought my 1st brand new Tahoe off the lot with every bell and whistle at the time and only paid 33K for it... That was 2002...

Ok so financial related work.
That’s been my experience is that individuals in this industry do make serious bank.

Used Infiniti Qx80 fully loaded is around 40k right now. That will get you a 19 or 20. We found a 19 even more than fully loaded and its a great vehicle for what we paid. Big, safe, strong engine. Mileage sucks but doesn't really matter to us for this type of thing.

I do Financial Services Strategy at the Manager/Senior Manager Level. Mrs. H2O is also ex-Big 4 (where we met) and does Privacy and Compliance work for one of the large cloud operations. Her salary is also lower relative to her peers, though they more than make up for that in stock. So her overall comp. is competitive.
We are in a similar field. I'm on consulting side.

So a starter house?
if a starter house for you is buying a shithole in the ghetto than we just may have different views of the world

Very nice, are you FS Strategy as well or something else similar?

My starter home back in 2005 was for $92,000 and sold it in 2009 for $126,000. It was a small 3BR/2BA 1200 sq ft hut. It put me on the path of living in the current 2,500 sq ft mansion I have now

In BR right now, everything I see that’s being advertised as starter neighborhoods is in the $230+ range. And that’s if you want to live way outside BR. Baton Rouge real estate is stupid and I hate it.

Mine was 1999, 89k. Sold in 2019 for 175k.

I'm not crunching numbers or doing any heavy finance related work. It's more corporate strategy for companies in that industry. Think banking, insurance, capital markets, wealth and asset managers, etc.

I worded my response clumsily for the sake of brevity. I meant that jobs mid level to up in the industries you have listed typically pay very well.
My friends that work(Ed) for consulting and accounting firms dealing with the industries you have listed are compensated very well for their time.
Posted on 2/8/23 at 12:43 pm to Oilfieldbiology
Ah, gotcha. Yes we are compensated well but it is a lot of long hours and time away from home. Hence why my location is listed as the Delta SkyClub

I paid 32-33k for a crew cab XLT in 2017. Those are 52k+ now. They can keep them.
I’ve got the same truck. It’s got 120K on the odometer. We now have two little ones, wife is driving a ‘15 CRV. So I’m not actively looking at vehicles, but I am keeping my finger on the pulse of what to get and what they run.
By every stretch of the imagination and every conservative “rule” by the man Ramsey himself, we can afford a pair of essentially any production vehicles. But I’ll be damned the day I spend $80K on a suburban/Yukon XL or $60K on one with 100,000 miles on the odometer.

Just for giggles, I searched for homes for sale in a radius around the city we live in (North Fulton Co, GA) . The only home listed for under $400k is for $359k.
3br/2ba - 728 square feet. That's not a misprint.
Almost everyone in this s/d is foreign (my kid has a friend there from school, and it's just a known fact you can't ignore when seeing who lives there).
It isn't an "unsafe" area by any means, but out of all the crime we have in this city, that's where it happens.
Unfortunately, a family needs to pony up over half a million here to be in a decent place, and the median price is a freaking $910k. Average apartment rent is $2100.
If you landed a job here as a young person, you'd realistically be facing a commute. It's wild. My first apartment not too far from here, back in 1999 was about $600/month, and it was new and nice. In 2008, you could buy a decent house for $250k, but now those houses are being bulldozed for McMansions left and right. Our old house is currently leveled.

That include Alpharetta? We’ve been up there, and to Roswell (and to Carrollton) for football kicking camps and enjoy the areas around ATL. Getting through ATL makes me want to murder things…but still, once you’re up in Alpharetta it’s very nice.

Too small. Ford Expedition Max and Chevy Suburban are the only two options in my future.
Though I'm trying to convince my wife to do a 12 passenger van and put 8 captains seats in it.

how many kids?
with 2, its more than enough for us. I could see where 3 or 4 could be a problem.
We just don't need that much cargo space but once a year, at most. So we throw a hitch rack on it that specific time
