that's what I'm thinking and I'll throw a little salt in, the old lady wanted a new Jeep and I didn't have time to mess with it so I told her to go find the one she wanted and negotiate a deal she was happy with and let me know and I'd send the money

I’ll never buy a newer vehicle for myself. It’s retarded to spend that kinda money on a depreciable asset. Now I’ll have to for my wife because she’s bougie but I’m content buying older suvs and trucks. frick a car payment.

I had such a shitty hand me down beater car in college that let me down so many times I swore that when I could afford it I'd never have shitty wheels again so I don't mind paying a little more for peace of mind, especially for the wife's car

Ho Lee Phuk. That is insane.

These ridiculous prices are inflating the used car prices and completely fricking up the market.

Family size has gotten smaller, but vehicle size has gotten bigger. The truth is that Americans will pay more for what they want than what they need, and manufacturers know this and exploit it. Ditto with the housing industry.

Meh, it depends. First, I don't know if I'd personally consider it as an "asset" when I think of my own finances. I've had a lot of bad/good luck in that we've been at no fault in accidents that totalled our vehicle or it was bought back by VW during the diesel scandal. So this has never happened for me in practice, but I always plan to drive my vehicles indefinitely. I am not thinking about what I can get for it when I sell it later. I just spend within my budget and if it's worth $0 at the end, hopefully I got my value out of it. And for SUV's and Trucks, used vehicles that you'd like to last you a long time can often cost damned near as much as a new vehicle. I got a 2018 F150 new and with the rebates at the time, it was less than $1000 more than used ones with a couple years and 30k miles on them.

It's what the market will bear and there's a huge group of people who buy new every 3-4 years for the sake of doing so.

Cars are a way for Americans to indulge their vanity while still being able to rationalize the purchase as a matter of utility.

I guess I'll just drive older vehicles moving forward. I could afford a 60k truck but I'm not willing to pay that much for a vehicle.
Same here. I have a 2014 F150 crewcab 4x4 that I bought new for $35k that’s probably worth about $20k now.

I was at the Ford dealer last week to pick up a part for my truck and drove around the lot looking at new F150’s. Comparable trucks to mine were all $65k and above. So that means I’d have to trade in my truck and still pay more than what I paid for my truck 9 years ago. frick that. They can keep their new trucks.

I bought a new Sequoia about a month ago... it was above 80 without tt&l.. I thought it was absurd, but I had to buy a new vehicle and when considering the my options I was gonna pay a premium regardless of what i bought.. I even looked at year old Tahoe and Yukon's and they weren't giving those away either.. Unfortunately these high prices are here to stay I'm afraid..

Crazy to think I bought my 1st brand new Tahoe off the lot with every bell and whistle at the time and only paid 33K for it... That was 2002...

Never understood this to be honest. You'd think a baw would choose a personal value to pride, not some purchase.

I would argue that the Lexus LS was the best luxury car on the market when it came out in the late 1980s
I would definitely agree with this, but extend it to at least their 2012 or so models. Absolutely incredible sedans.
