I watched a Youtube video about car industry trends. The average sales price for an F150 in 2022 was around $66k. That's insane.

Went through this with the wife before last vehicle purchase. The fight between packing and lugging less shite around and sticking with mid-size, or just relent and go full size so that all the kids junk can live in there.

You can buy a new Lexus RX 350 for 55-60k.
That is a full size luxury SUV.
Dude, the RX is barely a midsize SUV.

For me, I can understand the choice to go full size in this instance and why it might be worth paying up for that. I don’t agree but do at least understand the rationale.

I don’t understand buying a Tahoe for $90k when you could get a Telluride for $50k.

Order what you want, do not buy off dealer lot. Dealers load up options to maximize profit.

That still is expensive as hell to me for a car.

As someone else said, I'll just keep driving my reliable, old car I got for about 16k a few years ago.

Tahoe is huge, and the new ones are massive on the inside…and it can tow 4+ tons and can be equipped to handle some off roading that the Kia crossover can’t.

If towing and/or off roading isn’t in scope, practical choice is to skip both and get the Sienna Van. It’s just as roomy as a full sized SUV and more efficient than both.

That’s all fine, but in no way does that justify the $40k price difference (or whatever it is now). 95% of new Tahoes’ owners have no intention of off-roading or towing anything.

I live on a lake. See a lot of these pulling some huge boats on the weekends.

And they are having no problem selling those Tahoes for $70K+. GM’s full sized SUVs are the market leaders by a wide margin despite their high price.

When form started trumping function for people who have no business buying form it was all downhill from there.

But, hey......you've got a 40" "infotainment" system that can talk to your watch which can talk to your phone, that's the comfort that makes it all worth it.

50k is expensive as hell to me. Personally, I don't think I'd ever spend more than around 33% of my gross income on a vehicle. So 33k if I made 100k.

I drove the Tahoe and Telluride and no question the Telluride ran circles around it in every aspect, and 30k cheaper with a better warranty

Oh they clearly have no problem selling them. I just think that’s mostly due to vanity of the suburban American.

$50k will not buy you a new full sized SUV anymore. High $50s maybe a cloth seat package

I’d you need to tow anything over a couple of tons…there just aren’t many options less than $50k. And the options that exist are going to have a wait.

Can’t decide if wages haven’t caught up with inflation or if we are spinning into stagflation. Because it’s not just vehicles that sticker shock me. Everything is much more expensive across the board.

I always viewed those as a luxury. Every person who has a new one tends to have quite a bit of wealth from what I've seen.

Mmm hmmm.... When you can see a person's wealth you know they're absolutely loaded.
