This young girl, early 20’s told me her truck note is $800/mo. I asked her if she knew to negotiate the price and she said,”I just wanted the truck.” This is why prices are so high.

What’s so funny? That was before tax and lisc. Ended up being about $42k or so out the door.

Yep, actual price is irrelevant

They only know what they can afford a month and work with dealer to get to that number

This is exactly what a “crossover” is.

I was in a dealer in September and looked around at all the glass offices at the disconcerted faces and felt dirty knowing 90 percent of them were being taken for a ride. I always negotiate and lock in the deal before I arrive. I still spend two hours there explaining the deal is what we agreed and not a penny more.

A good rule of thumb is to keep a vehicle price at about 25% of your gross income. Maybe 30% tops.

Vehicles cost what they do today because people at all ends of the income spectrum go well above those numbers.

What the frick do people do that can afford these types of vehicles? Do people just not save a dime? Is everyone making $50-60K more than me?

I'm looking at replacing my Sierra AT4 with a Yukon AT4 here in a couple of years once kids are in the picture. Would keep the Sierra but need the space with the dog and something that can tow.

I'm in consulting and Mrs. H20 is in Tech. We're north of $300k combined with no student debt in our late 20's.

I paid 39k for my 4x4 F150 in 2017.

Unfortunately the next one will be 60+, but I will have to drive this one until it dies.

There is no way I could justify in my head spending 25% of my gross income on a vehicle. I just spent about 13% and was ok with it.

I had buyers remorse buying an expedition and f150 priced in the low 60’s each. I can’t imagine how I’d feel paying 75-80k for similarly equipped vehicles.

Jesus I must be underpaid. Both of y’all are raking in income in the neighborhood of $150K before kids?
