Spend some time around Algerians and Lebanese and get back to me. Confrontational and angry 24/7. Just generally unpleasant people to be around.

100% spot on. Every Lebanese person I know is stubborn as an ox, argues like an unhinged prosecutor, and changes between happy and screaming faster than a drive-by shooting. I'm starting to think they're only happy when they're yelling, or they're all hearing impaired (from all the yelling), or both.
If you can handle the ride, though, they are absolutely fun and loving people (hi, honey). Great family values with a heavy emphases on education.

South Koreans have the capacity to be exceedingly personable and polite, if they choose to. They can also lie right to your face with a warm smile and a handshake. In my experience, any behavior that gave them one iota of advantage in a business deal, they were usually willing to do it.
One Korean idiosyncrasy that I only experienced with them was this. During the holidays, many salespeople drop of gift or fruit baskets (liquor in the old days) to customers. If it were booze, 99% of the time I would get a specific type to my customer's taste. It would typically go right in his desk drawer. If it was a really good customer, I'd also bring a basket to the office staff. Or candies or cookies, whatever they wanted. That would generally get consumed at work.
The Koreans don't play that shite. Starting about December 1st, there would be some unwrapped packages in the lobby/reception area with business cards taped to them. I'm talking about TVs, VCRs (late '90s), microwaves, stereo components, etc. They leave all that shite out there until New Years to promote competition between the vendors and (theoretically) shame the cheap ones. It was fricking ridiculous.
