A friend's dad had it on his face last year and it got in his eye. Somehow it traveled down the optic nerve or something and caused encephalitis that put him in the ICU. It was very touch and go for about a week.

I had it in my late 30s on my torso. I identified it and started treating it early. It was still bad and painful for weeks. Just a deep pulsating pain. Not something anyone should want to sign up for.

I had it down the length of my left arm. It was like my arm was on fire constantly. Could not sleep. Could not get comfortable no matter what.
Gabapentin did nothing for the pain. Oxy made it a "little" more bearable but, ,never completely got rid of the pain. This shite lasted for over 2 months. To the point where amputation began to sound good.

Not pushing for or against any particular medicinal effort. I am here to tell you that Shingles is awful. Talk to a doctor you trust and find out what they recommend. My mom had it - I had it. The internal pain is crippling, it's not just a terrible skin rash -- I don't wish it on anyone.
