A friend's dad had it on his face last year and it got in his eye. Somehow it traveled down the optic nerve or something and caused encephalitis that put him in the ICU. It was very touch and go for about a week.

I had it in my late 30s on my torso. I identified it and started treating it early. It was still bad and painful for weeks. Just a deep pulsating pain. Not something anyone should want to sign up for.

Gabapentin did nothing for the pain. Oxy made it a "little" more bearable but, ,never completely got rid of the pain. This shite lasted for over 2 months. To the point where amputation began to sound good.

Not pushing for or against any particular medicinal effort. I am here to tell you that Shingles is awful. Talk to a doctor you trust and find out what they recommend. My mom had it - I had it. The internal pain is crippling, it's not just a terrible skin rash -- I don't wish it on anyone.

Close friend of my wife lost an eye to shingles. As much pain as I was in, I was lucky, it started in the nerves along my spine, then wrapped around my torso to the sternum. Some of the lesions were 4-5" in diameter and felt like a lit cigar was held against me. The only relief I got was from Vicodin, and it didn't help much.

How do you get every person over 50 to run out and get the shingles vax...Start circulating a non peer reviewed study that it reduces or prevents EVERYTHING they are terrified of:
Dementia
Heart Disease
Arrhythmia
Stroke
Seriously? It's all about the Benjamins folks...Review the side effect profile of Shingrex (not discussed in the big, beautiful study).

Run a huge ad campaign and have every GP across the country tell their old patients to get it. If people aren’t going to get a shot that nearly guarantees they won’t get shingles, why would cave because it will marginally reduce other risks?

True. Articles like this will give a short term boost to stock. If an actual breakthrough is discovered in these studies, GSK could make way more than a shingles vaccine could bring in.

I’m not sure I believe all that,prevention of dementia,etc.Cynic that I am when it comes to pharma,it could be just something they conjured up to sell the vaccine.
That being said the shingles shot is worth taking.I had shingles a little,over a year ago.I got on acyclovir early on so I got minimal blistering and only had one week of severe pain.
After that,I took the 2 shot series Shingrix,I don’t want shingles again.The first shot I had no side effects,the 2’nd I got fever and general malaise for about 24 hours.Wasn’t near as bad as the shingles though.
That’s the conundrum when it comes to pharma.They put out some very good,life saving drugs but they also put out some drugs that are harmful and kill people(Fen-phen,Bextra,Vioxx,Covid MRNA shot).
