Shingles vaccine linked to lower percentage of dementia, heart disease and strokes

I read “shingles vaccine” and my mind immediately jumped to the worst. Glad I got mine a few years ago.

“The current shingles vaccine, Shingrix, is made by GlaxoSmithKline (GSK). An older shingles vaccine called Zostavax was made by Merck & Co., but it has been discontinued and is no longer available.”
I wonder if GSK provided funding for the research for these studies?
ETA: Apparently it was funded by GSK, shocker. I bet if they found that the vaccine was correlated with erectile dysfunction it would not have been published.

Doctors and the Pharmaceutical industry have lost all their credibility. No telling who funded this “study” or what kind of agenda they’re trying to push.

I remember hearing my grandfather had it and I think one of the sisterwitches.
I would do the vaccine too. Need to ask the PCP next time I go.

Don't know about all that stuff but I got the vac. I've had shingles and it's as painful as anything I've had so far. Don't want to go through that again.

I had shingles in my 20s. Heard it is much worse as you age.
I haven't read the study but I wonder if they controlled for a bunch of other factors. I would imagine those who get the vaccination are also more likely to be generally healthier, eat better, be more active, see a healthcare provider more often, etc.
ETA: Based on a quick scan, looks like these are purely observational/correlational studies, without controlling for any other health-related variables besides age.

Wouldn't worry about shingles vaccine.
Now chicken pox vaccine? The people who have taken that aren't old enough yet to know anything about long term affects like does it cause shingles when you are older.

Both of these things are true. It’s the same virus that causes chicken pox, so if you’ve had chicken pox, the virus is already in your body.

It's what I would call aggravating. There is pain, but it is a constant pulsating pain; that is what makes it so bad. I've had many things that were more painful in the moment, but not with that continuous pulsating sensation that would not stop without medication.

It's the same virus, and it basically goes dormant but can be activated by stress and other factors. It also seems to reactivate within the ganglia, which is why it is such a persistent pain. The rash will also typically show up around those same areas.
I haven't ever gotten the vaccine, though. I need to ask my docter about it.

I had a bad case in my early 40's, extremely, extremely painful, took a log time to heal. I got the vaccine, not sure which one.

The prevention of shingles itself is enough reason to take it, IMO.
I had shingles during my late teens and I will never forget it. Very painful blisters form along the nerves. They last for weeks and they are so painful that you can hardly take a shower.
