Trees are renewable. Paper biodegrades.

Oil is not. Plastic doesn't.

They are recycled.

Most of the ones I used started limping out on me before the drink was finished

Don't even try one with a thick milk shake, the ends collapse at some point

Why are you people so obsessed with straws? If you don't like the paper ones just drink out of the cup like a normal human being.

Its a small step but its a step nonetheless. Its not hurting anyone to get rid of the damn things.

Finished with my tea and about that time it starts to break down. Not sure what the problem is here.

If Seattle is banning straws but haven’t banned plastic grocery / to-go bags, they are full of shite.

I just find it laughable that grown adults are addicted to a device that is completely unnecessary 95% of the time.

they aren't. It's more of a "muh freedom" thing.

And I'm not for laws on such things. I could be wrong, but I feel like the California law was something along the lines of it was illegal to automatically serve a customer with a plastic straw. If they requested it, you can provide. But couldn't just hand them out. I think a lot of people would just go on with their lives without ever getting a straw if that was the actual case. Cut down on the waste, but still have them available for things like smoothies where you actually need a straw.

Ah yes, good ole California where straws are bad but San Fransisco streets are flooded with feces and needles.

Seattle.... Where there are no LA people there to litter it all up.

That’s not because Seattle created legislation. We have legislation regarding littering. It’s just rarely if ever enforced. There are plenty of places in this country where you don’t find litter all over the place. Some places you can’t find any, and yet they don’t have to eliminate straws to make a difference. They just give a shite. A large segment of this population in Louisiana just don’t, and either don’t know any better, or just don’t care.

You are right and it is disgusting. The problem is all the trash that throws their litter into ditches, sides of roads, and all over the place that is not a trash can.

People in general suck

Don't they have reusable metal straws out that way?

Sounds weird. Why are they so worried about straws and not styrofoam? They may have banned styrofoam too, I don't know...

Just wondering that while I'm looking at the large Polar Pop of Coke Zero I got this morning at the Circle K. Lots more styrofoam than straw.

Also, why does spell check underline styrofoam?

You should avoid straws. They give you smoker's lip.

And a little less plastic in the world is a good thing.
