I was reading about the scandal that's developing around Michigan football, and it occurred to me that about 50% of the time, the scandal-du-jour kind of falls flat with me. I tried to list the most egregious examples:

Bernie Madoff's crime was failing to admit that he wasn't making his clients as much money as he'd said. He didn't just take all their deposits and steal them.

Mitsubishi Motors got in trouble circa 2000 because they tried to hurry up and fix problems proactively rather than have a recall. How in the frick is fixing people's cars a scandal?

The Milli-Vanilli thing; It was a catchy pop album. I wasn't all that fixated on it being those exact two dudes who sang everything. Do people listen to Pink Floyd and think, wow, I'm really glad it's Nick Mason hitting the bass drum there and not just some schlub? Who cares?

I mean making your clients $0 because of his Ponzi scheme is technically making clients less money than he said.

Watergate.

Still hard to fathom the country went into meltdown over a botched breaking and entering in which nothing was stolen.

Bounty-gate with the Saints defense. Most bullshite “scandal” that comes to my mind.

Students, faculty, and staff at the schools. People who did not get into those schools.
