“First Man,” the Neil Armstrong biopic that tells the tale of the 1969 moon landing, has stolen the show at several international film festivals — but not everyone is happy.

The film fails to show one of the most integral moments of American history – when Armstrong plants the American flag on the moon, according to The Telegraph. Ryan Gosling, the Canadian actor who portrays Armstrong in the movie, defended the decision to not show the flag.

Gosling was asked at the Venice Film Festival whether omitting the scene was deliberate and the actor attempted to sidestep the question by responding that the moon landing “transcended countries and borders.”

quote:

“I think this was widely regarded in the end as a human achievement [and] that's how we chose to view it,” he told reporters. "I also think Neil was extremely humble, as were many of these astronauts, and time and time again he deferred the focus from himself to the 400,000 people who made the mission possible.” Gosling said he didn’t think Armstrong “viewed himself as an American hero.” “From my interviews with his family and people that knew him, it was quite the opposite. And we wanted the film to reflect Neil." Gosling jokingly admitted he might have “cognitive bias” being that he’s Canadian.

If only the money it cost to put the man on the moon transcended countries and borders.

Ryan, you ignorant slut.

Next time we want your Canadian asses input, we’ll discuss maple syrup.

I mean 1000 years from now it will be a global historical accomplishment.

Plus it probably helps with international film sales. I don't really see a problem with it.

Does the rest of the world not know the US of A got there first? It's an iconic moment in human history, why the need to take that out?

More damned globalist, communists/socialists-transcending-borders-and-governments-at-least-in-theory propaganda.

Well if going to the moon was a “global accomplishment”, then I guess America built the pyramids. And the Great Wall.

Hell, while we’re at it let’s celebrate that great American achievement, the Taj Mahal.

See how much sense that makes?

That I would buy. It was never about Neil and I think he would have been the first to say that.

I do have to wonder how the Jewish scientists felt working with them. Von Braun once reportably hung the 5 slowest Jews in his factory to “motivate” the other workers. The guy responsible for us getting to the Moon was a full fledged Nazi and a member of the SS.

Do we conflate democracy and republicanism of thousands of years ago with global accomplishment or with Greek and Roman accomplishment?

What about the aqueducts? That a global or Roman accomplishment?
