Apparently it was a hot topic in 1969 too. The US went back and forth on whether to put a US flag or a United Nations flag. Congress ultimately decided to put the US flag. Neil Armstrong himself said his job was to get the flag to the moon, not to determine which flag it would be.

So cultural appropriation is A-OK with Ryan Gosling.

"I also think Neil was extremely humble, as were many of these astronauts, and time and time again he deferred the focus from himself to the 400,000 people who made the mission possible.” Gosling said he didn’t think Armstrong “viewed himself as an American hero.”
Yes, Armstrong was a humble, and very private individual. I can see the idea that he did not view himself as an American hero. However, I bet a lot of Olympic athletes don't view themselves as American heroes, but dammit they work hard to have that moment of pride on the medal stand, hearing the anthem play and the flag raised. I'm pretty damn sure Armstrong would have felt some pride in planting that flag on the surface of the Moon. It should have been included in the movie.
Regardless, I enjoyed the biography very much and plan on still seeing the movie.

This. It's one of the most patriotic moments in American history.
Gosling is speaking directly from the globalist handbook.
I can guarantee you Russia, China, and Japan were not celebrating this achievement like the U.S.. Maybe a small minority.

A movie is insignificant by itself regardless, so compared to the overall significance of a movie in theaters this is a very reasonable reason not to see it. Plus, you can wait until it hits red box or live streaming services for a cheaper price.

Exactly, which is why we all wonder why they interject politics into them.

if it was just a movie, then why do they feel the need to throw politics down our throat with it?

Fine by me, but it's still a very patriotic movie on the whole. I would prefer they showed the flag planting, but it's something that Armstrong himself didn't care about one way or the other.
