I think the teachers deserve it when you consider that teaching is a 12 hour a day 12 months a year job and that teachers have to be an expert in every field to enlighten the new generation

The lack of respect for teaching heroes here is disappointing

Wrong. A it's disgusting how much the word hero is misused.

happy for the teachers getting any sort of a bonus.

But it still wouldn't be worth it to have to live in Richland Parish or anywhere close to a data center.

Sold us out for this massive Ai surveillance-state compound being built, but at least they gave some people money for good the PR.

That’s awesome for those teachers. Meanwhile Superintendents across the state are bitching and whining because Jeff told them to cut the fat & pay for their own teacher raises.

This might be the first time in Louisiana history that money meant for teachers and education actually got to them/it.

Why do teachers get bonused based off of sales tax collections?

Was that set up before META started being constructed or after?

Weird metric to bonus teachers on, and I have not yet read that it is a one time deal? The taxpayers in the parish deserve some tax relief.

If the "local population" wants a piece of the action, they can get off their arse, get a teaching degree and go to work for the parish. Other than that, they deserve dick.

Or
They can vote to change the funding mechanism (lower taxes) and also vote for school board members who change district by-laws and adjust bonus payments which seem to have been set up before the huge increase in sales tax revenue. Teachers would also benefit from reduced taxes.

A lot of school districts do this. The monthly salaries are so pitiful that these checks are the only reason to teach in such a terrible school system.

Or
They can get off their arse, get a better degree and go to work for someone who pays better. Other than that, they deserve dick.

If they're going to have these stupid data centers, then they should distribute the "benefits" more evenly across the populace, rather than giving all of it to teachers who make up what, maybe 1-2% of the populace.

Each local parish/school district affected should hold a tax vote before this stuff starts and adjust rates accordingly. It was ignorant not to adjust the bonus structure if it was set up to pay based on a much smaller expected amount of revenue.

How do they distribute money to the family that drove through Richland Parish and spent money on food (which was taxed)?

Don’t be obtuse.

This is how they get people to support them. Someone complains about how they use up a lot of power and teachers in the school system is like "all I know is they gave each one of us a $50k bonus"

Will they still collect property taxes on everyone, or just give it all to the teachers?

Yea, I’ve noticed every group get funding, sales tax rebates, kickbacks, free money of all sorts etc……

Except taxpayers !

Is it coincidence that the family of the head of the Chamber of Commerce happened to be the one that sold Meta the land?

Actually, the family sold the land to the state 20 years ago for mega economic development projects, and this is what came of it.

Its sad that so many are jaded to the point that they can't be bothered to look for details before running someone down.

Correct. Every property taxpayer should benefit.

They can. There is a ton of money being made there by other professions. They can go drive a truck, plumbing, electrical, be a laborer, concrete finisher, carpenter...

Tons of jobs paying good damn money.

This has been a thing for years in Richland Parish apparently. The article says last years “13th check” was a few thousand.

You do realize that family could owner property where they live? There are plenty more tax revenues outside of just property taxes lol
