Well, we’re white and we haven’t had a family reunion since around 2000 and we used to have one every year. Don’t think this is unique to black families.

If this is a decline I don’t want to imagine the litter in City Park or on the Lakefront 30 years ago. The mess they leave is barely mammalian.

My family is white and had large reunions. We always said when the grandmas die off we’ll stop having them. Guess what? We don’t have them anymore and I’m good with it.

Who the hell studies this?

Hard to have family reunions when you don't have functional families.

Hard to hang out with your dad‘s family if you don’t know who he is.

You used to always be seeing them in those shirts.
Now it’s the angel shirts for those that pass on.

I'm a white guy in my late 30s and remember annual family reunions as a kid, but other than weddings, there have been no other official family reunions since the mid to late 90s.
I went to one family reunion, one of my cousins hit on his/my cousin and I haven’t been back to one since.

Why do we need family reunions to catch up on that one frick up cousin or disaster couple when we get a front row show year round on social media?

The traditional family unit is dying an accelerated death.

A lot harder to have family reunions when the kids all have different dads.

Is there anything about black people this place won't complain about?
Who's complaining?? It's an interesting turn of events being discussed.
Wipe that chip off your shoulder.

Strike up another one to that POS LBJ. He destroyed the black family in this country.

With social media and smart phones, you're able to follow people's lives a lot more than you were able to 30 years ago. I guess some people think that these gatherings aren't necessary if they can talk to family regularly through various social media apps (I don't share this view).
IMO.
I’m white but enjoyed the Tyler Perry shows on this topic.
Extended family on my side used to have one yearly or so but hasn’t since late 90s. No disagreements that I’m aware of just separate lives.
Wife’s family gets together fairly often usually 2-5 times a year.

We used to do family Christmas parties every year on various sides of the family.
Deaths generally killed those off though Katrina also dispersed some of those individuals.
Black coworker of mine used to do the family reunion thing too. She quit after issues with the cost involved and the door prizes being stuff she has no use for, like a basketball. (She was probably in her 50s at the time)
