I would gladly keep burning fossil fuels with clean air/fossil regulations for power and vehicles and trade all the plastic garbage for cardboard, paper and glass containers. We actually had it right decades ago when we used paper, steel, cardboard and glass products or containers. At least those (except glass) would eventually biodegrade into the earth. Plastic does not.

I have always said being a good environmental steward is important.

Most trash is generated by leftists. Look at large cities versus smaller towns. The per capita amount of trash is way higher in blue cities.

I don’t mind electric cars. I want clean air and healthy trees and all that. I even want public use of more land.

The problem is that the people behind the environmental movement are anti-human.

Even if we start cleaning up our trash India and China are still gonna have a lot of trash, so there's no point. Nothing anyone does matters.

Yea only European/Western nations seem to try. Until other nations get on board, there’s no point killing our economies trying to make up for their failures. If China/Russia/India would simply adhere to similar pollution regs as ours I bet the improvement would be so drastic that we wouldn’t need to push harder to phase out fossil fuels.

But they know that. It’s all bullshite to try to control people.

Sure, like others have mentioned, simply picking up trash, eliminating single use plastic bottles, plastic bags, etc. Also, given what it takes with fossils fuels to produce them, I don’t think all these batteries are good for us in the end. Convenient, but not so friendly.

It's all in how you're raised and unfortunately a vicious cycle in the lower socioeconomic areas. They also need to address trash flying out of the back of pick up trucks as well.

Nobody can have an actual debate about climate change because half the people google “why climate change is real” and the other half google “why climate change is a hoax” and then cite really inaccurate studies, talk over one another, and refuse to budge even a step.

NY State banned those "single use" plastic bags grocery stores and others commonly used. I always used those as garbage pail liners, but now I get big and useless paper bags to dispose of and buy larger tall kitchen plastic bags as garbage pail liners. The net result is more useless waste and more cost which is all too often par for government.

Same here.

Instead of drinking 3 or 4 bottles of water a day, I use reusable plastic cups and have a Brita water tank from Home Depot that stays in the fridge

Disagree here in that you're not saving the planet. There's no evidence that anything we've done is harming the planet. We're not making anything new that didn't already come from the planet. Nature can balance itself. For instance, more trees can balance out the higher levels of carbon. What you are doing is making the world a better place and helping the natural flow, which I agree with and am in favor of.

No, because Leftists are too insane to have a real discussion as to what that means.

A lot of upvotes here but how would this thread go if they were banning most single use plastics for consumption. Now that would be interesting to see.

You can blame the progressives for hijacking environmentalism, labeling it climate change, with the only solution to the problem is government spending and encouraging others to spend.

If we spent the hundreds of billions we have spent on green initiatives on waste collection, litter pickup and littering prosecutions this place would look like Singapore.

You are trying to make a political connection to be mad at the group you want to be mad at.

It doesn’t line up with reality, nor does our collective response to “man-made climate change”.

You know who litters? Shitty people with no skin in the game. Try and reconcile that back to conservatives

No. I meant that environmental conservation has somehow been “claimed” by the Left. Conservatives don’t have to give up very much to say “we hate litter and shite too!”

You may not be old enough to have this recollection but in the late 60s and 70s litter was worse than you can even imagine.

Well cleaning up trash is one thing I can get behind, and I am all for removing the plastics from the ocean. What I don't get behind is mythical doom predictions based on zero evidence. The two are not the same. Never do I hear a climate activist say: you know we should clean up all the garbage in our waterways.

It’s crazy how much trash my wife and I have in the can every week by trash day. And all my neighbors are the same way. Amazon boxes make up the most of it.

Took 20 seconds

And resusable grocery bags are far superior. Hold way more, sturdy, have handles, etc. it’s amazing people don’t use these more. Just keep a few in my car folded up in the trunk.

Go back 60 years and we look sanitized in the modern day.

The vultures always think we can do more. They'll never stop until your riding horses and buggies again.
