Right? Why is the default response from all the conservatives "F that...imma go pollute even more" our of spite?

I don’t think conservatives or liberals have anything to brag about regarding littering or pollution, both sides are awful. And even when it comes to regular citizens, as someone who has lived in an extremely liberal city to now a mostly liberal city, there’s litter and trash always in both

Don't you think we could live in a more environmentally friendly way?

But, this isn't even the biggest concern:

That's true... No doubt, but there's a lot to unpack here besides "copy ( insert name of beautiful place in the world)"

I agree. Why should not wanting trash and shite and toxins all over your environment be seen as a “liberal” idea? Not saying we should live in straw huts and give up cars while China and India are living large, but what about simple pride in the cleanliness of our country?

Yeah I never get why we can’t strive to be cleaner as a society.

I know there's several groups trying to clean up all the plastic in the ocean. Seems like this should be a high priority but you don't hear much about it.

The big trash is something they're going after. The microplastics are there to stay. Forever. They're in our seafood already. It's crazy how much plastic is in the ocean. Humans suck.

i think MMCC is mostly a money grabbing hoax, but i freaking hate littering. a completely unavoidable faux pas on the human race just like people who don't put their cart up in grocery store parking lots.

That’s awesome I support it.

Unrelated but connected topic…. What I don’t understand is, when I buy something that is “plastic free” why is the selling statistic that they give “ you just saved X amount of water bottles in the ocean” ? Have we just resigned to the fact that all plastic will eventually be tossed into the ocean? Like recycling or regular waste management isn’t even in the projection ?

I’m fine with keeping a cleaner planet for aesthetics and feel. I’m not ok with being told that all good things must end if we want to “save the planet.”

If the general public knew how much of our waste was shipped overseas to then be dumped into rivers and oceans, they'd be pretty alarmed (at least I'd hope).

Old article, but:

quote:

Last year, the equivalent of 68,000 shipping containers of American plastic recycling were exported from the US to developing countries that mismanage more than 70% of their own plastic waste.

quote:

In 2018, the US sent 83,000 tons of plastic recycling to Vietnam.

quote:

each month throughout the second half of 2018, container ships ferried about 260 tons of US plastic scrap into one of the most dystopian, plastic-covered places of all: the Cambodian seaside town of Sihanoukville, where, in some areas, almost every inch of the ocean is covered with floating plastic and the beach is nothing but a glinting carpet of polymers.

This is just part of the 5=9% of plastic that is actually "recycled" in the US. The other 91-95% is thrown into landfills or other waste disposal.

However I have made one simple change and am ok with my contribution to try to save the planet Instead of drinking 3 or 4 bottles of water a day, I use reusable plastic cups and have a Brita water tank from Home Depot that stays in the fridge

Now make a change that contributes to higher T levels and use glass or stainless steel containers for your water.

That isn't from an Earthday in California. It is a tailgating mess from a 2009 UGA home game.

We stopped cooking in non stick (only stainless, cast iron, or ceramic) and stopped storing anything in plastic. Water bottles in metal, leftovers in glass. I don't notice a difference in my health really if I'm being honest but I certainly don't regret it. The glass tupperware is so much better all around.

We absolutely should. It's disgusting the way we treat the environment. Littering being the biggest/most obvious thing but certainly not the only one.

Litter is not the same thing. We should all stop throwing trash on the side of the road.
