Tyson is cool and all, but in zero way is he on the cutting edge. Elon, rightly or wrongly, gets all the press for his company's creations, but I'd have to imagine he has some cutting edge scientists on SpaceX. There are also some great high end math types involved with finance and financial models, we are just a different world that values different things now.

Some of those guys were born in the mid 1800’s and some in the early 1900’s and their careers span into 1950.
To compare apples to apples, you’re really asking what geniuses have been on earth in the last 100 years?
Minds that made interstate travel efficient, internet access affordable, cell phones powerful, electric vehicles possible, space stations for people to live on, personal computers, Information and monetary systems like Google, Wikipedia, PayPal, Meta, and someone figured out how to actually pay for the fuzzy channels on TV.
To name a few from memory
Jobs
Cook
Sergei Brin
Zuckerberg
Gates
Satya Nadella
Bezos
Eric Schmidt

I’d love to hear more.

This is why the Romans considered them the lowest value of citizen. They were barely better than slaves. Hell, many of them were slaves.

Put Hawking’s brain in Ted Williams’ head…he’ll be the smartest jock ever.

Honestly with computers most of your advancements are there. The big science has been in quantum physics, and it’s damn near impossible for average people to understand.
I know everyone loves to hate NDT, but he really does a nice job of breaking down really complex physics in layman’s terms.

quote:You forgot sex degenerate who had a passion for fricking with other men's wives, and then later cheating on them too.
Commie sympathizer who had a legit commie brother and mistress, both of whom brought Russian spies into the circle.
No matter how big or small, they're always weirdo sex degenerates. Go figure.

I doubt most of the historical names in your list were well known at the times they were active.

Singers, actors, athletes are who we tell kids to look up to instead of people doing real things that impact society. Musk is a rare exception and it’s only because he owns a media company and is the richest man in the world.
e.g. Livve Dunne is valued for posting carefully crafted and staged thirst trap - butt pics. She’s borderline rich and linked up with guy that’s even 20x wealthier than she is.
She isn’t known for being the greatest at gymnastics. She’s known for pushing the envelope to the edge of inappropriate with her staged thirst trap selfies. It has taken her to the upper tier of lifestyle because simps eat it up.

I work in the Physics department at a Cancer treatment Center. Been there for over 20 years & can blow your mind on advances we’ve made in the last 5 years alone on curing cancer, & reducing side effects with radiation.
But you know what? It’s not played out on TicToc or other social media platform. It’s not on the news because they are too worried about how terrible of a human Trump is.
And I tell my sons all the time when I see these huge contracts athletes sign & what actors & singers make, I think, I’m helping cure people of a disease, but I’m simply NOBODY.
My point is, if Einstein were alive today, no one would give a shite, they would be more worried about if Taylor Swift took a dump today or not.
Thanks for listening.

Oppenheimer really just piggybacked on Einstein
That's how it works in theoretical physics, Maxwell's 19th century theories of electromagnetic force used later by Tesla, Edison and others in their own work.
An obscure 1960's Soviet Russia scientist's textbook on the behavior of electromagnetic waves (radar) upon 2d and 3d objects was discovered in the early 70's by a Lockheed engineer, forming the basis for modern stealth aircraft geometric shapes and the materials used to construct them.
Feynman's lecture series is an interesting dive into physics and science generally. Like Michio Kaku, he's a great communicator of complex physics principles.
All of which eventually led us here....

Oppenheimer's genius was in understanding the fundamentals and knowing what might work, while managing the 1,000's of exceptionally bright engineers and scientists who eventually made it happen.

Government funding into Physics has purposefully stifled advancement since the creation of the bomb.
Decades of chasing the ridiculous field of string theory and funding it has damaged that field tremendously.

The big deal was making a ball of mass turn into energy. That's been done. It won't get any better than that.
Now they are looking to the heavens and arguing about dark matter nobody will ever see. Not even a space ship will ever see or run into dark matter.
