Union Pacific Steam Schedule

Aug. 19 - enters Louisiana from east Texas stops in Lake Charles, Kinder, & Livonia

Aug. 20 - departs Livonia with stops in Plaquemine, Donaldsonville, & Luling before reaching the final destination of New Orleans for the weekend

Aug. 21 - on display all day at Audubon Park

Aug. 22 - does Friday schedule... just in reverse

Aug. 23 - departs Livonia with stops in Bunkie, Natchitoches, & spends the night in Shreveport

Aug. 24 - departs Shreveport and heads to Texas

Seriously though, I've seen videos of this thing - it's impressive. If I was anywhere near where it's running I'd check it out. Friend of mine saw it hauling arse next to hwy 30 in Nebraska a few days ago and sent a clip.

UP refurbished 4014 to take part in the celebration of 150 year anniversary of the completion of the transcontinental railroad

ETA: also... it's just a fricking huge piece of mechanical mastery

FWIW... 4014 was originally built in November 1941

Steam locomotives are amazing machines. They are massive. They are beautiful in a way you can understand— meaning you can see how they work. Everything is purely mechanical so it makes sense - no electronics.

And they seem alive. A steam locomotive huffs and puffs rhythmically- as if it were breathing.

Absolutely go see it close up while it’s under steam. You won’t forget it.

Go see it. It's an impressive machine. We saw it when they rolled it our a few years ago.

I've seen it twice and it blew my mind how big it was.
