Nice. So I guess it’s turning around before heading into Audubon park so it is going to go to the park backwards?

Didn’t get to Plaquemine until 0930 or so. She’s running behind already.

Would be fantastic if it could wait to get to the Old Metairie area after the kids get out of school. My 5 yr old would lose his mind.

good thing is you get to see it come in tonight... look at it on display at The Fly all day tomorrow... and then watch it come back through on its way out of town on Sunday

That must be the reason they’ve been reinforcing the track on the Western edge of lake P for last year and a half…..

When we saw the Big Boy on it's return trip from UT to Wy in 2019, we met Merrill Merrill Transtrum the oldest surviving Big Boy engineer from the 1940's and 50's. He told us that the Big Boy's were so heavy they would push the rails apart if the trackwork wasn't perfect.

Just take him out of school. It's a history lesson. We played hooky when it came to Utah.

Thought about letting my 8 year old stay home Monday morning to go see it.

Yes, it will "back into" Audubon Park, but you won't be able to see it from the levee until it hits Orleans Parish. The NOPBRR tracks from the Huey P. Long Bridge run along Earhart Expressway until it approaches the 17th Street Canal then turns south, crosses Jefferson Highway in Jefferson Parish headed to the levee.

Nice. Well hopefully they give me and the kid a steam whistle even though it’s backing in.

Unfortunately 4014's tour is a rolling COVID-19 super spreader event. Some of the notices, tweets etc. mouth the warning "The railroad encourages visitors to wear masks and practice social distancing". However, masks are rare in the photos and "social distancing...?"

A comment from the 4014’s Twitter feed. Jesus, some people just love to be miserable.

Quite a sight, I was really impressed. It is huge and loud. The steam whistle has a really great sound, much louder and melodic than today's diesel locomotives.

It rolled right by our house yesterday. I told my wife I wouldn't mind the tracks as much if all of the trains rolling through sounded like that.

Awesome pics! I got excited when I first heard that it was going from Houston to Lake Charles to NOLA because our office is right on a train track near I10 in Lafayette so I thought I'd be able to catch it as it went by but was bummed to find out it's route from Lake Charles went up to Opelousas and went around me completely. We're headed to New Orleans this weekend so we may try to stop by to see it.
