I mentioned going through a tunnel a while back. Here's a video of that very trip that someone took from back in the train.
youtube
As I recall, it's been a while, the diesel was doing a lot of the pulling going upgrade here. They wanted to keep the wear and tear down on the water heater.
Can see how big the tunnel bore is and yet it was still hot in there on the steamer.

Actually caught this driving back from Alexandria yesterday down 71. Pretty badass especially since I knew nothing about trains.

H2O was in fire hoses form the Ball Parks.
I think they got fuel oil in Addis/Lavonia.

Same thing happened on an early 90’s trip behind ATSF 3751… the drivers slipped in tunnel 5 on the Tehachipi Pass and bathed the trailing diesels, first couple of cars, and anyone caught in the vestibules or hanging out the window with soot. Some dude caught the whole thing on video.

How is it to really live in your mom’s basement?

They'd only use a tanker of water in an emergency as there's not nearly enough volume to fill it up. Would take a number of trucks. The tender alone holds 25,000 gallons and the two water tenders behind it are far larger.
Wow, how much water does something like this use on an hourly or per mile basis?
