Acceptable if it’s to bag your first Asian.

My mom plays and convinced my wife and I to play during a vacation a few months ago. It was pretty confusing at first and we resisted but eventually liked it.

My mom is a widow and I don’t always get a chance to spend that type of quality time with her.

On another note, I’m constantly giving thanks that my mom & wife get along so well and have made my life infinitely better. The OT has convinced me that’s rare based on their experiences with women.

While the under 50 is preferred, avoid the middle. I am working on the 120 set now.

Surprised no one mentioned it. This is a big asian money game. Thus the intensity of the players. On a Navy ship in one of my spaces a game was played nightly and thousands of dollars were exchanged. This was not an enlisted only or officer only game. I would have senior people walk up to an E-4 and hand him a 100 dollars.

Yep. I just joined a hip mahjong club/cafe that recently opened up near me. I'm not missing out this time.

I didn't say you should be sad that you don't know; you said you were happy you didn't know. There are tons of benign things I don't know about; I might be apathetic about a host of it, but I'm not "happy" about not knowing any of it.

Any game that makes you think and stategize is good for you. If you avoid these things to feel more manly then i guess dementia is for real men.

He is trying to justify it:
quote:

Mahjong originated in the mid-19th century in China as a popular gambling and social game, often played by elite men and merchants in bustling cities like Shanghai and Ningbo.

OTers are still building models and posting them on here to show off.

So, I would say Mahjong is ok.

Whatever happened to a good ol' game of spades? The hail mary stress of going blind nil with no passes allowed is a good time.

Are all these sets coming from China?

There are all sorts of white girl startups selling them, I'm sure they're probably made in China though

there was one in Dallas at peak woke (so like 2021-22) where they were so white-girl oriented they had to issue an apology to the Asian community and promise recenter themselves or whatever

I am pretty sure mahjong predates communism.

Idk about Mahjong, but anyone who is concerned about his manhood being questioned enough to ask other men about it, isn’t much of a man imo

Had a friend just ask if his manhood would be severely questioned if he played Mahjong with his wife and another couple

It's what men do while their wives are being properly tended to by their boyfriends.

I have only ever heard of women playing Mahjong.
wife made me watch a 10 minute video of some japanese dude taking bones from a cow or something and over the course of 6 months aged, honed, shaped, painted and organized them into a box of mahjong tiles.

it was like a slow-moving trainwreck; couldn't turn away from the devotion this guy took to make them.
