LSU freshman defensive lineman Deuce Geralds has his sights set on making history this season.

Geralds recorded his fifth sack of the year against McNeese on Saturday, putting him within striking distance of Harold Perkins Jr.’s LSU freshman record of 7.5 sacks.

When asked about potentially chasing down Perkins’ mark, Geralds made his goal clear.

“Yeah, I feel real good about that. I definitely want to go get that. I want to go crush that record,” Geralds said. “So, like, I’m really excited about that. I’m really working hard to go get more sacks and more sacks every game. So that’s really on my mind.”

Geralds also has some friendly competition within LSU’s defensive line room.

Veteran edge rusher Princewill Umanmielen is among the nation’s sack leaders, and Geralds said watching him get after opposing quarterbacks has given him another target to chase.

“I really see how, like, his will to, like, get to the quarterback, and I just, like, I want to have that same will because, obviously, he’s leading the nation in sacks, and that’s something I hope to do one day.”

Geralds said he regularly reminds Umanmielen that he’s coming for his sack lead.

“Right now, I’ve been telling him, like, ‘I’m coming for that.’ Like, every day—like, every day—I say, ‘Hey, you better get your sacks because I’m coming right behind you, and I’m trying to catch you.’ So I let him know that all the time.”

With five sacks already, Geralds needs three more to surpass Perkins and set a new LSU freshman record.
