I just moved to Ohio. Utility costs up here are outrageous. Most expensive electricity I’ve ever seen.
It not the kwh rate, it’s the layers on top of it. I’m not 100% sure, but I’m guessing electric companies in Ohio must own a lot of elected officials.
Can’t wait for May 2029 for my son to graduate and gtf out of here.

I bet they don't adjust the thermostat in the Ohio State House chambers.
Or the politician’s homes as well

don’t understand the logic of making life less pleasant for decades in a futile attempt to fight against the above scenario.
How does life become less pleasant than it currently is by saying we don’t want this?

Try that in the south and everybody, Red, blue or purple, would have them tarred and feathered

You’ve missed the context. I’m not saying people should sign up to let the utility company manage their thermostats; I’m saying having a thermostat that must be manually adjusted is an objectively worse user experience than having a thermostat that can be adjusted by you from anywhere on earth, but particularly and most importantly from your bed

Do you know whats even worse about this....
Congress would get special dispensation to control their own thermostats.
AND
If course the rich will be able to skirt or nullify this rule for themselves.

I wonder if OH is getting any AI data centers...sounds like a bill funded by the AI lobby to make sure their data centers stay up and running at all times
This is exactly what it is. Google, Facebook, Amazon plus others all have data centers littered throughout central Ohio and more are being planned daily.

As opposed to rolling blackouts?
The issue isn’t oversight. The issue is lack of energy production and inability to build anything to upgrade the grid due to “environmental impacts”.

Energy policy has crippled the power infrastructure or we underestimated the actual power needs on the grid.

It's coming.
Meta's datacenter they were just approved to build will require load shedding on the residential side.
Then, Meta is going to pack up and leave in 15 years.

LG&E is constantly pushing their smart thermostat program. No thanks, for this very reason.
We open the windows and cut off the air quite a bit when it’s reasonable. It’s not my fault they’ve horribly mismanaged the grid.

rolling blackouts are the current nation wide approach to demand control, and it needs to stay that way. Because it is a highly visible, well reported occasion.
