Just talked to my colleague there. She was sick a few weeks ago and has several family members in bad shape. Sad and I agree they are in bad shape.

Sounds kind of familiar, eh?

Not at all. The US manufacturing and production during 2020 was amazing.

You going to credit the serious people behind those efforts or are we already entering revisionist history phase?

To be fair, I don’t think China is as uniformly packed like India. And the cities where they are, fell under super strict control that wouldn’t be tolerated in democracy.

That would be a valid argument if we hadn't seen every single other control measure across the world fail more or less miserably.

Can you clarify “bad shape”? Are most people home with the flu or on ventilators?

Just saying “yea it’s bad over here, everyone is sick” doesn’t really tell us much

Did you see the pic a week or so back from the outdoors crematorium with several small fires raging and guys busy carrying wood to fuel them?

India has big time been in the back of my mind in this pandemic. While I knew China was just going to lie about their death total, India probably wouldn’t and seemed like a delightful place for that virus to spread. Now it’s finally happening, but we’re jealously sitting over Astrazenica and J&J vaccines that no one’s using. History will not be kind to Joe Biden for this.

Sure. Coworker has two cousins (didn’t ask how close) both in hospitals and one is on a vent. Sounds reasonably serious.

From an operational perspective given our team access protected health info (PHI) there are very tight security guidelines. Some of our clients require access to only be done via allowed locations and work from home becomes a massive pain in the arse.

Be honest, people give credit and criticism to presidents whether or they anything to do with it. All based on whether they like the president. Like right now, Biden is getting credit for the vaccine count.

I have family and some family friends still living there. Most people are still carrying on like nothing is going on but many states are entering lockdowns again. With India’s population, if even a small portion of the population is being affected, that’s still a lot of people. Their already shitty health infrastructure is struggling to handle it. In some places they’re putting two patients to a bed or flat out refusing to see some people.

It’s not the end of the world there but they’re probably going to be dealing with it for a while. You’re talking about a massive country with tons of poor unhealthy people and limited resources in comparison.

Were the pictures of these fires kind of like the pictures of empty refrigerated trucks that the media told us were full of bodies in the US?

Pretty sure the administration said late last week they'd be distributing 20 million of the AZ doses, but didn't specify to which countries they'd be sending them to, or when that would start.

They’ve been showing some of the hospitals taking care of patients. All I can say is God bless America, that place is lacking in some serious advanced medical facilities..

The issue with India’s healthcare system and their society in general is there is a huge separation of the haves and the have nots. The people with money all go to private hospitals with the best doctors and all the supplies they need. The large majority of the population has to go to public hospitals which are total shite. Those hospitals are overrun and don’t have supplies to deal with the amount of patients coming in.
They have actually vaccinated a large portion of the population but it’s the Astra Zeneca vaccine which is not nearly as effective as a Pfizer or Moderna vaccine.

I read less than 10% of their population had gotten vaccinated. Not sure how accurate that is though. In a country that size, that's still a lot of people, but not near enough to combat an outbreak like they're experiencing.

AZ is plenty effective. The problem is only 10% of India has received one dose. That leaves a billion people left. They have to reach something around 500 million people vaccinated or infected to start containment. Most countries showed results at 40% one dose vaccinated, which probably worked with infections to start the turn towards control.

Except that’s a lie. The hardlined lockdowns did work all over. No one working, no one allowed to leave home. Which BTW, we never really did in the US. It was only really done with a bare handful of countries.

The questionable results was the half measures of allowing general interaction with arbitrary rules attached.

China did shite like barricade cities and neighborhoods, and even welded shut doors of apartment towers to allow only one authorized and locked point of entry that food was brought in for a few weeks.
