My only defuel settings on the regular tunes were ECT and EGT. That's the reason I blew it up

I'm in agreement here. To hell with need-Wanting it counts big. I've got a 1999 F250 4x4 Supercab 7.3 that's in excellent condition. I haven't had a note in 12 yrs and the truck is a nice ride. I bought it to tow equipment and a horse trailer. It towed these things with no strain-that's what I like. I seldom tow now but I'm still keeping it. I'd love to have a brand new one but it's hard to get rid of what I have to take on that note of a new one. That new F250-F350 is beautiful.

As soon as they get done with the recalls, they're gonna dump more bricks in a Silverado.
Whatchutalkinbout? I have had zero problems with my chevy's over the past 15 years. No problems, no recalls. If my 2001 would not have been stolen a year ago, I would still be driving it.
FORD? No thanks.

The truck wars have gotten out of hand. If you are actually using the truck to haul things...for most people, the old body style Dodge with the 5.9L Cummins Diesel would be plenty. My dad had a '93 model D250 Diesel that got around 20 mpg and cost about $23,000 (2wd regular cab).

'll probably catch a ton of shite for this but the diesel HP/TQ wars have really just become a silly pissing match at this point. Any offering of the Big Three is more power than 99% of 3/4 ton pickup owners will ever use, myself included. Anyone who says they're upgrading from a 11-16 6.7 to a 17+ 6.7 because they need more power is a liar. They are damn good looking though
I totally agree with the above post, except for the damn good looking part.

Hammer, Ford took a lot of weight from the body with the aluminum and used that savings to beef up the chassis with the specific intent of increasing the trucks capabilities in order to safely increase payloads and towing weights. It is normally the chassis (brakes, frame, suspension) that is the limiting factor. I read somewhere that Ford engineers were then allowed to up the horsepower and torque because of these capabilities.

Sort of a similar spot I was in by I was dumb and took the dive, I had a 2003 7.3(last year for them) that aside from the small common things gave me zero issues, towed everything I threw at it with ease and was capable of 20+mpg when empty and ~15mpg towing the same trailers that now yield 8mpg on my 6.7, granted my 7.3 was 2wd and my 6.7 is 4x4. Knowing what I know now I sort of wish I'd found a clean 96-97 7.3 4x4 and saved myself a ton of money.

If you can find one...
Expect to be a stunning amount of money.

7.3's were great, but the only way you got 20mpg was with an 80mph tailwind.

Last I looked about a year ago a super clean 4 door, 4x4 long bed was running in the $20k range.

A 7.3 with a tuner/intake/exhaust is easily capable of 20mpg.

At 60mph in ideal conditions (tail wind) maybe, but "easily 20+" is BS.

That's a pretty ugly front end on that thing. Would probably look better without chrome.

How do you do with your 6.7?
I can get 18 if I stay under 73.

I'm a GMC man all the way, but my dads 02' 7.3 will get 18-22 all day. It's a 2wd crew cab. It will get 16 pulling his 36' camper. It's a towing machine.

Mine has a 2.5" leveling kit, 35's & 20's and the 2wd air damn on the front, so I'm pretty much doing all I can to screw up my milage. This is going to be some meauxjeaux type crap so I'm sure I'll get shite for this too but mine seems happiest at 85mph, I've hand calculated numerous times, most recently on a trip to/from Destin last week. It'll get 15 at 85, 14 at 75, and 16 at 70 or less. When it was stock I could get 18 at 75.
