I got a speeding ticket from a cop in South Dakota 10 years ago. I never paid it.

I'm never going to South Dakota again.

You got yourself a Failure to Appear arrest warrant in SD I bet.

Just stick a reflective piece of plastic over it. Or swap it out with an old plate

I don’t get what’s so funny. Seems like a legitimate way to foil these 3rd party parking Nazis.

If you aren’t driving then you won’t get stopped and ticketed for the license plate. Just have your real plate back on when you start driving.

What am I missing?

It is a private company recording the violation, but a Baton Rouge traffic cop that doesn't review shite, and will sign anything.

Don't worry about the cameras now. Just get a new license plate when your time runs out and you go on the boot list. Until then you can blow through the cameras with no worry, because your license plate is going to be "stolen" in a couple months and those tickets are gone.
you post that enough times, they'll start scanning VINs

What I don't know is, what happens if you wish to fight the ticket

You can't. They make the process of fighting these things so painful that you just give up and pay.

I'd like to know how many of these tickets don't get paid in New Orleans. They really fricked up when they set the penalty so high. If the ticket was something like $25 or $50, I believe most people would just pay the ticket and move on. Charging people over $100 is just dumb. I don't pay them, I throw them away. When I get the 3rd letter, I go to an auto notary and get a new license plate. Problem solved.

I just ignore them. They are unconstitutional because the appeal process is a fraud.

The new mayor Cantrell is suppposed to get rid of the traffic cameras.

Do you have a court citation on that?

There was a scandal in some city (I think it was Baltimore but not 100% sure) where it was discovered that the cop that was reviewing and signing off these tickets had been dead for three years.

You can cite the Sixth Amendment. No right to face your accuser, who should be the state/local law enforcement who have the power to actually enforce the law, nor does the accused get the presumption of innocence when a fine is issued for a presumptive crime without the state having to prove its case. it is unconstitutional (and nonsensical) to outsource a public law enforcement duty (traffic enforcement) to a private, unaccountable third party.

NOLA will boot you. They don't do anything in BR. This is an Advocate story from a few years ago about it.

Motorists in New Orleans could still get booted if a single traffic camera ticket is unpaid. Brossett's ordinance doesn't cover the city's extensive network of red light and speeding camera enforcement, which Mayor-elect LaToya Cantrell has pledged to dismantle.

You can be quite sure that the various states that do this passed laws to get around this.

For example, this is always treated as a civil matter and not a law enforcement case. That pretty much invalidates everything you said. Essentially you are being sued by the state (or municipality), not charged.

So in Maryland they don't boot your car, they simply turn over overdue fines to collections. And of course the fine is lower so that it really isn't worth most people's trouble to fight it anyway.

Now, all of us can complain about how "it isn't Constitutional! Yeah!" that doesn't mean shite unless a court agrees with you.

Sixth Amendment? As a previous poster wrote, that only applies to criminal proceedings.
