I actually taught him this afternoon. It was easier than I thought it would be. Thanks OT!

Bro, kids can do incredible things. Their minds are like sponges. They learn faster than we do. I still want to know what kind of man has a closet full of shoes with no shoe laces? LOL

I commend you on posting the resolution. So many fail to do so and leave many of us unsatisfied. Thank you.

I think dexterity is an issue. I taught the concept with a 1/2 rope around my leg. He then did the same.

He learned instantly.

Ian knot.

Since he didn't know how to tie them at all, his muscle memory kicked in and now he can tie his shoes in under 2 seconds

You are relying on schools to teach your kid how to tie their shoes? My goodness.

I remember my oldest daughter kindergarten orientation over 20 years ago and the administrator asking parents to please have they have their 5 year olds potty trained before opening day of school. I asked the administrator if she was kidding, she said she wasn't that there were many kids entering kindergarten who were not potty trained. smdh.

My oldest is 8 and he doesn’t know how to tie shoes yet nor do any of his friends.

My dad got tired of tying my shoes around age 5 or 6. One Saturday he finally had enough. I remember he sat me down, showed me yet again, and said I wasn’t allowed to go outside to play until I had successfully tied both shoes. There was also the implied threat of an arse whooping on top of this as it had been an ongoing issue. After about an hour of trial and error I had mastered the skill.

I bring my 13 year old daughter to school and we’ve gotten half way there when she realized she didn’t even put shoes on

I don’t think she has a disability but sometimes I wonder

That’s understandable. Don’t be too hard on yourself.

One of my earlier memories. Sitting on the back porch (we had this big screened in back patio). I am sitting on the stoop, with my Mom's shoes, that had white laces, with rainbow colored hearts. I am a lefty, so I have been told I tie laces a little bit backwards, but was so excited when I finally did it. I was about 4-5 years old. For what it's worth, I rarely wear lace up shoes, and if they do have laces, I try and slip them on, without untying.

I always struggled with shoe tying. Learned my own way to do it that I still deploy today.
