Maybe you should withhold more and pay your fair share

I get the withholding more part (or at least putting more aside), but hopefully the pay fair share part is a troll or sarcasm otherwise thats just ignorant.

It's fricking stimulus.

It's welfare, Jethro. It's targeting low income ifamilies.

It's a stimulus for Walmart shareholders.

The EIC has confused people’s understanding of the entire payroll tax system.

I mentioned that I did my taxes and was receiving a small refund. An individual who makes significantly less than me said it wasn’t fair that I didn’t have to pay taxes since I made so much more than them just because I had a couple of kids. They were quite angry about the whole thing. They couldn’t or wouldn’t understand that I damn near paid their yearly salary in federal income tax. I just over paid a few hundred dollars, and I was getting what I overpaid back.

I am pretty sure "working" a few weeks at sonic or McDonald's over the course of a year is all the "income" you need to qualify. Which is BS.

It's not a stimulus. It's moving money from one sector to another. It's a type of welfare.

Yeah, it moves money from the middle/working class and funnels it up to the capital gains class.

If you have to write a check for a tax liability, do something about it. Sounds like it is pretty consistent, so adjust your withholding or make additional estimated payments.

thank Reagan for the EIC

If by Reagan you mean Ford, then yeah. Unless you're talking about the largest expansion of the EITC, then thank Clinton. But whatever, man.

The EITC was enacted in 1975(Ford). Expanded int 1986(Reagan), 1990(Bush 41), 1993(Clinton), 2001(Bush 43), and 2009 (Obama). The only former president president who didn't expand it was Carter.

I'm downvoting because this is an avoidable situation.

Gotta withhold more or start paying estimated taxes. With holdings exist to prevent that scenario.

You need someone’s help to properly get your taxes done.

Your other option is to overpay them all year, let them earn interest on your money, and you get a check back months after the year ended.

I choose this option. The 2% on $3,000 I would’ve earned in savings is worth sacrificing in order to hide that cash from my wife and know that I won’t have to cut a check at the end of the year.

Also I think $2,000 of that a child tax credit or something that isn’t withholdings. I guess I could factor that in.

I try to either come out even or owe a little. You would think people in this state would've learned a lesson a few years back when it came time for LA to reimburse everyone on income taxes and JBE said, "nah, imma hold on to this for a while, playa".

This seems to have really become a thing in the last 5-10 years. They seem to have no concept that you don’t “get” taxes, you “pay” taxes.

Don't take things too seriously. A lot of it is just funny hood memes.

Most people know what tax refunds are they just use that verbiage to sound funny.

Well said. Most people have very little tax liability, if none at all.

Your realize that’s your fault right?

I adjusted my wife’s withholding for this year to alleviate it. It’s pay me now, or pay me later, anyway.
