Meh, depends on the dog, doesn't it? Some people's kids need to be on leashes too, imo.

I hate other people’s dogs almost as much as I hate their children.

Letting kids run into the street is easier and I'm sure they'd enjoy it
Anyway, this isn't really a pet peeve of mine because I rarely have bad interactions with unruly dogs off leashes. But I still don't think the reasons for it aren't very compelling

Depends. I a lot of times don't have mine leashed always. Even off leash though my dog is better behaved than most people's dog on leash and if there are people around is at heel exactly if she was on leash.
What bothers me is people who do not train their dogs to be good dogs and let them run around, yap, and jump on people. There is no excuse for an ill mannered dog (or child).

I don't mind a well trained dog off leash, they behave better than most adults...

I run in my neighborhood with my dog on a leash.
I can't stand the people who let their dogs out without a leash.
I have been doing this for a few years now and I have been involved in a few dog fights.
When a dog runs up to my dog I don't know if it is being friendly or territorial.

I play Disc golf with my dog off leash. She stays within 10' of me at all times unless we get to a wide open spot and I tell her to go run. She loves it and immediately responds to commands.
I occasionally get some Karen looking at me from 100 yards away freaking TF out. Most people at that park let their dogs loose. Have never had a problem in over 8 years of going there.

In most cases, I don't mind dogs at all on patios/restaurants. They are normally better behaved than children. It only becomes an issue when a few people meet up, all with big dogs, and there isn't enough room for them. Then, I am basically sharing a table with a dog. I've been less than happy a couple of times when a wagging tail has brushed my food.

Absolutely HATE HATE HATE this.
No matter what you think, it is still a dog. It can get startled, disobey, see another dog/cat/animal, run into traffic, run to another dog.
If you are in a fenced in area or dog park fine. If you are not, it should be on a leash no matter how well trained.

Well see there is the difference my dog knows he is not allowed in the street unless I tell him he can cross

Nope dog is always on a ecollar so just think of it as a invisible leash that allows the dog a little more freedom.

I take mine to the park on a leash and if no other dogs are in the park I let it off leash. Take mine to the golf course and let it run free. They are well behaved and don't bother anybody. Restaurants no.

Civilized places expect you to bring your dog. Only 3rd world shite-holes eat dogs or ban them from restaurants. It would nice if human children behaved at least as well as dogs normally do.

sounds like you dont know how to control an animal.

A cat on its worse day is better than a small yippy aggressive dog on its best day.

This is what you think.
All it takes is for your dog to act on an instinct they've been ignoring.
My dog listens to me as well, but when we go for walks, she's leashed. It's very annoying when an unleashed dog comes up to my dog and my dog starts to get defensive because she feels vulnerable on a leash. We have leash laws for a reason. Leash your dog. You're not special.

I have thoughts on this. I think people who walk their well trained dogs off leash have just never owned a dog that is aggressive towards other dogs. I don’t blame them and some of their dogs are extremely well behaved and I’m impressed, I used to be one of those people actually.
My dog though, he’s super calm and well behaved in every situation, little kids, babies, in a Home Depot etc... but he HATES other dogs and will attack them if they come up to him. He’s a rescue and I think the people who had him before us never showed him another dog until we got him at 2 yrs old. We did lots of training and socializing, he’s well behaved now but still will fight any dog he can. The trainers told us it’s probably anxiety as much as aggression, he never learned as a puppy how to interact with any other creatures than humans so his natural instinct is to show them he’s tough...
So while your dog might be friendly and well behaved so you let it run around your front yard with your kid, just know that if your kid runs up to my dog he will wag his tail, play and lick them in the face.
If your dog comes up then you better call Michael Vick because it is on and popping

Again I get the sentiment, but you’ve just never had to experience your dog tearing across the street to go at another dog, or had it freak out when someone’s “well behaved” dog wanders over to play.
Again, I don’t blame you, but all it takes is for your dog to forget their training for a second, run up to the wrong dog, and then you will understand why people don’t like to see off leashed dogs

Yes these people are definitely the worst

Count me in as with you on both counts.
Several bars I frequent to play darts allow dogs in them and I've never understood that, and understand it even less when it comes to places to eat.
Now don't get me wrong, I can understand Service Dogs, and by that I mean legit Service Dogs, not some mutt the owner bought a Service Dog harness for so they can have their precious little ankle snapper with them at all times.
